Track and Field maintains top-10 rankings

The Longhorns are ranked No. 5 in the women’s standings and No. 7 on the men’s side.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Track and Field program, coming off a weekend of strong performances across the Lone Star State, holds a pair of top-10 rankings in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) National Rating Index. The Longhorn women are ranked No. 5, while the men are slotted at No. 7.
Both Texas programs have been ranked inside the top 10 throughout the 2021 Outdoor season, with the women occupying a top-five spot throughout the spring thus far.
Texas' women currently boast nine NCAA top-10 marks, led by Tara Davis' NCAA-leading long jump performance. The Longhorns also have individual top-10 marks from Stacey Ann Williams (No. 2 – 400m), Kynnedy Flannel (No. 3 – 200m), Chanel Brissett (No. 3 – 100mH), Kristine Blazevica (No. 5 – Heptathlon), Kevona Davis (No. 7 – 200m) and Elena Bruckner (No. 9 – Discus). Brissett's third-ranked time in the 100-meter hurdles came this past Saturday at the Michael Johnson Invitational in Waco, Texas. In addition, the Longhorns' 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relay squads rank second and fourth, respectively, this season.
Six Texas men hold NCAA top-10 marks at this point in the season, including a pair of leading marks from long jumper Steffin McCarter and triple jumper O'Brien Wasome. Both McCarter and Wasome set their marks at the the Longhorn Invitational, Texas' Outdoor opener, on March 6 in Austin and have held the top spot since. Behind them, Charles Brockman III ranks third in the 400-meter hurdles and Leo Neugebauer ranks eighth in the decathlon. Neugebauer scored 7,621 points in the 10-event competition at the Roadrunner Invitational last week to earn his top-10 spot. In addition, Texas ranks third in the 4x400-meter relay and eighth in the 4x100-meter relay this season.
The Longhorns are scheduled to return to competition this Saturday, April 24, at the LSU Alumni Gold in Baton Rouge, La.
