Base Knocks:
- Sophomore pitcher Shea O'Leary enters Wednesday's trip to UT Arlington having not allowed an earned run over her last 19.1 innings of work dating back to March 27 against...UT Arlington.
- O'Leary was honored for her dominant weekend against Texas Tech as the Big 12 Conference's Pitcher of the Week. The 6-2 hurler went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 18 K's over 14 innings during the sweep of the Red Raiders.
- Head Coach Mike White is closing in on another milestone as he needs THREE MORE VICTORIES to post his 100th career Texas win. He's currently 97-23 (.808) in three seasons at UT.
- Senior outfielder Kaitlyn Washington is within striking distance of a long-standing Texas career record. The Humble, Texas, native has 47 doubles, just two from surpassing Jodi Reeves' (1997-2000) program record mark of 48 doubles that has stood for more than 20 years.
- Junior Janae Jefferson currently ranks EIGHTH in NCAA Division I in batting average (.506). She'a slso tied for FIRST in "Toughest to Strikeout" as one of just 15 players in the nation who have yet to K this season.
- Texas is currently riding a 10-game winning streak. This is already the third winning skein of at least seven games for the 2021 Longhorns (streaks of 10, seven & 10 games).
- The 2010 Longhorns set the school single-season record with 88 HR's (44 after 30 games). This year's Texas squad is ahead of that pace with 45 HR's after 30 games.
- No player in Texas history has hit more HR's over the first 30 games of the year than senior Shannon Rhodes has in 2021 (12 HR's). The closest to the mark were Tallie Thrasher (10 HR's in 30 games in 2007) and Lindsey Stephens (2014).
- Over the past two seasons, Texas has posted a 51-6 overall record. Five of those six losses have come by just one run with the lone multiple-tally defeat occurring at No. 13 LSU on March 6, 2021, 7-2. Texas hasn't lost at home by more than one run since April 20, 2019, against Oklahoma (L, 2-9). That's a stretch of 48 home contests.
- Longhorns rookie catcher/first baseman JJ Smith has gotten the most out of each of her at-bats so far over her brief career by going 12-for-26 (.462) at the plate with seven extra-base hits and an .808 slugging mark.
- Senior outfielder Shannon Rhodes and junior catcher/third baseman Mary Iakopo love extra bases as 29 of their 60 combined hits this season have gone for extra bases (48%). Of Rhodes' 32 total hits, 17 have gone for extra bases (four doubles, one triple, 12 HR's), while of Iakopo's 28 hits, 12 have gone for extra bases (two doubles, 10 HR's).
- Watch out for Texas with two outs in an inning. So far through 30 games, the Burnt Orange & White are batting .371 (98-for-264) with 77 two-out RBIs (36% of the team's total RBIs have come with two outs this season). Mary Iakopo currently leads the squad with 12 two-out RBIs, while 10 different Longhorns have recorded at least three two-out RBIs.
- Texas has been strong this season with runners in scoring position, hitting .377 (109-for-289) in such instances. Two-time All-American Janae Jefferson (13-26, .500) leads the team with 13 hits, while five different Longhorns have at least 10 hits with RISP.
- Texas is 16-1 when scoring in the first inning this season. Under the guidance of head coach Mike White, the Longhorns are an impressive 42-5 since the start of the 2019 campaign when scoring in the opening frame.
- The Longhorns have out-hit 23 of their 30 opponents in 2021. Since the arrival of head coach Mike White prior to the 2019 campaign, Texas is an impressive 84-11 when out-hitting an opponent.
