The Longhorns will head to No. 3 TCU this weekend for the final road trip of the regular season.

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 6 Texas Baseball defeated Texas State, 4-1, on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The Longhorns collected five hits and drew seven walks in the victory.

Cole Quintanilla (4-0) picked up the win in relief, striking out three of the six batters he faced in two shutout innings of work.

Texas (36-11) started the scoring in the second, plating a run to take an early 1-0 lead. DJ Petrinsky and Murphy Stehly opened the frame with back-to-back singles and advanced on an Eric Kennedy sacrifice bunt. Trey Faltine drove in Petrinsky two pitches later with a ground ball to deep short.

Texas State (19-27) tied things up in the fifth with a solo home run to right field.

Zach Zubia got the run back for the Longhorns in the sixth with a screaming home run to right-center, giving Texas a 2-1 lead.

The Longhorns tacked on another run in the seventh to push the lead to 3-1. With two outs, Mike Antico and Mitchell Daly drew back-to-back walks. Antico came home on an Ivan Melendez infield single after an errant throw to third base brought him to score.

Texas added one more run in the eighth to make it 4-1. Douglas Hodo III began the inning with a walk and came all the way around to score after a Silas Ardoin walk, a Murphy Stehly sacrifice bunt and a groundout to first.

In his first career start, left-hander Lucas Gordon threw three shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out two batters. The left-hander extended his scoreless innings streak to 12.

Drew Shifflet threw two innings and allowed one run on two hits with one strikeout. Tanner Witt struck out three batters in a scoreless eighth and Aaron Nixon picked up his sixth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Next, Texas heads to Fort Worth for its final road trip of the regular season with a three-game series at No. 3 TCU. The series will get underway on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
