No. 1 Women’s Tennis sweeps SMU, 4-0

The Longhorns advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 11-14 in Madison, Wis.
AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 1 University of Texas Women's Tennis team swept SMU, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Texas Tennis Center in the regional championship match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. With the victory, the Longhorns (3-0) advance to the ITA Division I National Team Indoor Championships on Feb. 11-14 in Madison, Wis.
Texas grabbed a 1-0 advantage after taking the doubles point against the Mustangs (3-1). The tandem of freshman Sabina Zeynalova and sophomore Kylie Collins raced out to a 5-1 lead and earned a 6-3 victory on court 1 against Claudia Bartolome and Jackie Nylander. The sophomore pair of Charlotte Chavatipon and Peyton Stearns clinched the doubles point after jumping out to a 5-1 cushion and closing out a 6-2 win on court 2 over Lexi Keberle and Lana Mavor.
Texas completed the sweep with a trio of straight-set wins in singles. Chavatipon won four of the first five games in the first set and then finished her match by claiming the final seven games to earn a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court 3 over Nylander. Zeynalova followed by winning the first seven games of her match en route to posting a 6-0, 6-3 win on court 4 against Mavor.
No. 40 Collins rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the first set and won 11 of the next 12 games to clinch the dual-match sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court 2 over Hadley Doyle. The remaining three singles matches featuring Stearns, freshman Vivian Ovrootsky and sophomore Malaika Rapolu were stopped after Collins finished her contest.
Prior to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, the Longhorns return to the court against No. 22 Baylor at 2 p.m. Central on Wednesday, Feb. 2. The Texas-Baylor match will be played indoors at the Edgar O. and Melanie A. Weller Tennis Center.
