Knight Becomes 20th XC All-American in School History

AUSTIN, Texas – Haftu Knight etched his way into Texas history at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday morning.
With a 20-second personal best in the 10k at 29:27.9 and a 27th-place finish, Knight became the 20th Cross Country All-American in Texas history. This marks the second-straight season Texas has had an All-American honoree and 26th overall.
Knight's finish is the best finish for Texas since Sam Worley also finished 27th in 2019.
The top 40 runners in the race earned All-America honors.
Sophomore phenom Isaac Alonzo concluded his standout season in the top-100 finishers (95) with a nine-second personal best at 30:11.0. Junior Cruz Gomez finished with a time of 30:30.3, followed by sophomore Rodger Rivera at 30:35.1.
Abraham Avila-Martinez crossed the finish line at 30:56.8, while freshmen Nathanael Berhane (31:35.2) and Emmanuel Sgouros (31:58.2) closed out the competitors for Texas.
The team finished 18th overall in the team standings with 506 points. It's the second-straight top-20 finish for the men and 21st time in program history.
The women concluded their 2022 season at the NCAA Championships for the first time since 2019.
Beth Ramos was the top finisher for Texas for the fifth time this season, finishing the women's 6K with a time of 21:29.8. Grad student and outdoor All-American Valery Tobias finished with a time of 21:47.4, while sophomore Eva Jess closed in at 22:09.8.
Kelsie Vicknair, Isabel Hebner and Alyssa Duhart all finished in just over 22 minutes, while Monica Hebner was the final Longhorn to complete the 6K.
