No. 1 Baseball shuts out Alabama, 1-0

Pete Hansen, Travis Sthele, Jared Southard and Aaron Nixon combined for the shutout of the Crimson Tide.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 1 Texas Baseball shut out Alabama, 1-0, in the series opener on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The combination of Pete Hansen, Travis Sthele, Jared Southard and Aaron Nixon pitched the Longhorns (6-0) third shutout of the season.
The Longhorns and Crimson Tide are scheduled to play Game 2 on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Tristan Stevens will go for the series win on Saturday afternoon against Alabama's starting pitcher Antoin Jean.
Hansen made his second start of the season, pitching five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. He allowed four hits and gave up one walk. Stehle relieved Hansen in the fifth inning and pitched two scoreless innings to record his first career win.
Nixon finished the game for the Longhorns, earning his second save of the season. Nixon pitched the Longhorns out of a jam in the eighth inning and finished with two strikeouts, only allowing one walk and one hit.
Texas scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh. Skyler Messinger singled up the middle and advanced to second when Trey Faltine was hit by a pitch. With Murphy Stehly at bat, a passed ball and wild pitch sent Faltine to third and Messinger home to put Texas on the board.
Stehly went 2-for-3, Ivan Melendez went 1-for-3 with a double, and Messinger was 1-for-2 with the only run scored in the game.
Going into the top of the fifth of a scoreless game, Alabama loaded the bases with two outs. Hansen was able to get third baseman Zane Denton to fly out to Douglas Hodo III to bring the inning to a close.
