UT sophomore posted a combined 4-0 mark in singles and doubles to lead the Longhorns to a pair of home sweeps.
AUSTIN, Texas — University of Texas sophomore Kylie Collins has been named the Big 12 Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. Collins picked up her second career weekly conference honor, as she previously claimed the accolade on Feb. 9, 2021 during her freshman season.
This also marks the third time in the last four weeks that a Longhorn has earned the Big 12 weekly accolade. Peyton Stearns received the honor in back-to-back weeks on March 22 and March 29.
Collins posted a combined 4-0 mark in singles and doubles this past weekend to lead the Longhorns to a pair of home sweeps against No. 25 Kansas and No. 52 Kansas State. During Friday's 7-0 win against the Jayhawks, Collins paired with Charlotte Chavatipon at No. 2 doubles and claimed a 6-2 victory over Raphaelle Lacasse and Mariana Manyoma-Velasquez. She returned in singles and tallied a 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 win on court 2 against Malkia Ngounoue.
In Sunday's 4-0 sweep over the Wildcats, Collins again teamed with Chavatipon at No. 2 doubles and earned a 6-0 shutout over Dinara Alloyarova and Manami Ukita. She returned in singles to clinch the overall dual-match victory for the Longhorns with a 6-4, 6-3 win on court 2 over Karine-Marion Job.
Collins is No. 38 nationally in the latest ITA singles rankings and sports a 23-8 overall record in singles this year, including an 11-5 mark in dual-match play. Collins and Chavatipon have posted a 10-2 record in doubles this season, including a 5-0 mark in dual-match action, and are No. 32 nationally in the current ITA doubles rankings.
No. 4 Texas returns to action when it travels to face No. 21 Baylor on Saturday, April 16. First serve is set for 2 p.m. Central at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.
