No. 1/1 Track and Field Shine at Mt. Sac Relays

WALNUT, Calif. - Texas track and field put on a show on the second day of the Mt. Sac Relays in California.
Julien Alfred and Kynnedy Flannel advanced to Saturday's 100m final with two of the top-five times. Alfred was tied for second with a time of 11.18, while Flannel finished fifth at 11.26. The pair later competed in the 200m dash, where Flannel won the event with her time of 22.61, the No. 4 time in the NCAA this season.
Rhasidat Adeleke finished second in the 200m with a time of 22.81 seconds, while Kennedy Simon finished sixth at 23.07, Alfred in ninth at 23.18 and Kevona Davis in 10th at 23.25.
Marcellus Moore, Micaiah Harris and Daniel Garland also qualified for the 100m final with the top-nine times of the night. Moore's finish at 10.14 was the second-fastest qualifying time of the day, while Harris' 10.17 was fourth and Garland closed the qualifiers out at 10.41.
Harris championed the 200m dash at 20.31 seconds, the sixth-fastest time posted in the country this season. Willington Wright finishes eighth at 20.73.
Four Longhorns competed in the 400m hurdles, with Milan Young finishing second on the women's side with a season-best time of 56.85. Brooke Jaworski finished fifth at 57.77. On the men's side, Gabriele Montefalcone finished third (50.19) and Charles Brockman III finished fourth (50.32).
Jonathan Jones continued his standout season winning the 400m dash with a time of 45.30. The time is No. 7 on the Texas all-time performance list and he now holds five of the top seven performances in Longhorn history. Brian Herron and Wright also finished in the top 10 in sixth (46.13) and seventh (46.13), respectively.
Valery Tobias swept the middle-distance runs, taking the 800m dash with a time of 2:04.79. She later went on to win the 1500m at 4:17.09, the No. 6 time in Texas history. Alyssa Duhart finished the 1500m in 4:26.26 in 10th.
Cruz Gomez competed in the 1500m at the Bryan Clay Invitational and finished with a time of 3:39.64, becoming the No. 4 performer in Texas history with the seventh-fastest time.
Jalil Brewer finished second in the men's shot put with a personal-best throw of 19.90m (65-3.50). The throw moves him into the No. 8 spot on the Texas all-time list. Patrick Piperi finished sixth with a throw of 18.28m (59-11.75). On the women's side, Marilyn Nwora finished fourth with a throw of 16.69m (54-9.25).
Tyra Gittens won the women's long jump at 6.69m (21-11.50) and moved up to No. 3 on the Texas all-time list. Freshman Ackelia Smith finished fourth at 6.46m (21-2.50). On the men's side, Jathan Belaire finished fifth with a mark of 7.70m (25-3.25).
