Base Knocks:
- With 328 career hits, Texas senior second baseman Janae Jefferson is just FIVE HITS from breaking the Big 12 career hits record set last season by former Iowa State standout Sami Williams (332 hits).
- Jefferson is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak. Over that stretch, the Humble, Texas, product is batting a remarkable .545 (18-for-33) overall with 15 runs scored and a .610 OBP.
- Watch out for Mia Scott with the bases loaded. The freshman third baseman is 4-for-5 (.800) in such situations after unloading the bases with a key three-run, sixth-inning double during last Saturday's 4-2, streak-busting upset of No. 1 Oklahoma.
- Texas senior pitcher Hailey Dolcini picked up her SECOND Wilson/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week and Big 12 Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week honors over the last 21 days (April 19) after posting a 1-1 overall record against No. 1 Oklahoma with a 2.00 ERA, two complete games and seven K's over 14.0 IP while limiting the nation's top-ranked offense to just five total hits and a .100 overall batting average. She's won 10 of her last 12 decisions dating back to March 12.
- Texas has registered 22 total wins over current Top 100 RPI teams in 2022, including nine over top 50 RPI squads.
- Texas has now won six of their last eight games against ranked teams dating back to March 16 (including five in a row at one point & a victory over No. 1 Oklahoma) after starting the season with just a 1-6 mark versus rated foes.
- Senior second baseman Janae Jefferson has quietly been climbing her way up the national stat rankings. The Humble, Texas, product now rates 11th in all of NCAA Division I in hits (58) and 21st in doubles (13).
- The Longhorns ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division I in total doubles with 77 (as of April 19), trailing only North Dakota State (82), Louisiana (81) & Illinois (78). Janae Jefferson (13) leads Texas.
- The Longhorns currently rank No. 13 in the latest Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) that's used as one of the tools to seed postseason play and are No. 17 in strength of schedule.
- This past weekend against No. 1 Oklahoma, Texas broke every attendance record in McCombs Field history. Saturday's total of 1,698 fans was the most ever for a UT home game, while the weekend total of 4,883 fans marked the most over a three-game home series in program history.
- Maybe Texas should consider putting Mary Iakopo in the leadoff spot from time to time. We only say that because the senior C/1B is hitting a remarkable .609 (14-for-23) when leading off any inning this season.
