No. 4 Women’s Tennis defeats No. 11 Oklahoma State, 4-1

The Longhorns advance to Sunday’s Big 12 Tournament championship match (11 a.m. CT) to face No. 2 Oklahoma.
FORT WORTH, Texas — The No. 4 University of Texas Women's Tennis team (19-4) recorded a 4-1 victory against No. 11 Oklahoma State (18-5) in the Big 12 Championship semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Friedman Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point, the Longhorns earned four dominant straight-set wins in singles to claim their 13th victory against a nationally-ranked opponent this spring.
With the win, Texas advances to Sunday's championship match (11 a.m. CT) to face No. 2 Oklahoma. The Sooners posted a 4-0 victory against Kansas in Saturday's semifinals.
Oklahoma State took an early 1-0 advantage by claiming the doubles point. The No. 72-ranked duo of sophomores Charlotte Chavatipon and Kylie Collins earned a 6-0 shutout on court 2 over the No. 75-ranked tandem of Mananchaya Sawangkaew and Martina Zerulo. Chavatipon and Collins improved to 12-2 overall in doubles this season, including a 7-0 mark in dual-match play.
The Cowgirls responded as Oona Orpana and Dariya Detkovskaya posted a 6-3 win on court 3 against the freshman pair of Sabina Zeynalova and Bella Zamarripa. Zeynalova and Zamarripa won the opening two games of the set, but Orpana and Detkovskaya claimed six of the next seven games to close out the match.
Oklahoma State clinched the doubles point when the No. 18-ranked duo of Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto earned a 6-3 victory on court 1 over the No. 15-ranked pair of sophomore Peyton Stearns and freshman Allura Zamarripa. Rioux and Miyamoto jumped out to a 4-1 cushion, before Stearns and Zamarripa won back-to-back games to trim the margin to 4-3. Rioux and Miyamoto answered by winning the next two games to finish the match.
Freshman Vivian Ovrootsky provided a spark for the Longhorns in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court 6 against Miyamoto. Ovrootsky dropped the opening two games of the first set but rallied to win 12-straight games to finish the match and move to 12-5 in singles dual-match play this spring.
No. 2 Stearns gave the Longhorns the dual-match lead with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 win on court 1 over No. 19 Rioux. After pitching a shutout in the opening set, Stearns was tied 1-1 with Rioux in the second set. Stearns promptly won five consecutive games to close out the match and improve to 22-1 overall in singles this season, including a 19-1 mark in dual-match action.
No. 118 Chavatipon followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court 4 against Orpana. Tied at 1-1 in her opening set, Chavatipon won five-straight games to earn the 6-1 first-set win. She jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set and cruised to the finish line to move to 16-10 overall in singles play this year, including a 9-3 mark in dual-match action on court 4.
No. 79 Zeynalova clinched the overall dual-match win for the Longhorns with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court 3 over Zerulo. Tied at 2-2 in her opening set, Zeynalova won four consecutive games to claim the 6-2 first-set win. She raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second set and finished out the 6-1 second-set victory to improve to a perfect 17-0 in singles dual-match play this season.
The remaining two singles matches featuring No. 58 Collins (court 2) and Allura Zamarripa (court 5) were stopped once Zeynalova clinched the dual-match win.
