Abdalla and 4xMille Win at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Yaseen Abdalla championed the 5000m at the historic Penn Relays on Thursday night on the first day of competition.
Abdalla was the lone competitor to run a sub-13:50 5K time with his time of 13:47.05 to capture the event in the field of 90 competitors. His time improves his previous No. 4 time in Texas history to maintain the No. 4 spot.
Abdalla became the 39 event champion in Texas history at the Penn Relays.
Abraham Avila-Martinez also finished the race in 14:07.60, while Isaac Alonzo finished in 14:10.13.
The Longhorns also claimed the 4xmile Championships of American by Yusuf Bizimana, Cruz Gomez, Abdalla and Crayton Carrozza. Texas won with a time of 16:17.45 over Virginia and Providence for the top-three finishes. The win is the third time in program history Texas has claimed the event, the first two in 2007 and 2008. The win is also the first relays win for Texas since 2015 when the women won the 4x400 relay.

Later in the afternoon, Brendan Hebert finished the 1500m in 3L56.94 to finished 23rd overall. On the women's side, Valery Tobias finished second overall with her time of 4:17.09, matching her personal-best time she set at the Mt. Sac Relays.
Alyssa Duhart finished in the event with a time of 4:27.40.
Isabel Hebner finished the women's 5000m with a time of 16:07.72, which ranks as the No. 8 time in Texas history. Her fifth-place finish was the top finisher for Texas, while Eva Jess finished at 16:52.48 and Beth Ramos 16:56.80. Aaliya Fazel finished at 17:23.01.
The Longhorns posted two top-15 finishes in the women's 10,000m run with Ava Peeples finishing in 34:54.56, while Alexa Rodriguez finished just behind with a time of 35:01.85.
