The 4x400 relay breaks the program record with the fastest time of the night.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 1 Texas men's track and field team dominated on its final day of the NCAA West Prelims. The Longhorns had 11 entries qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 8 – 11.
Sean Stavinoha started the day advancing in the men's discus to reach the Championships for the first time in his career. Out of the second flight, Stavinoha finished eighth with a throw of 55.95m (183-6).
The men's 4x100 relay of Daniel Garland, Willington Wright, Marcellus Moore and Micaiah Harris finished with the third-fastest time of the day at 38.80. The time ranks as the fourth-fastest time in school history.
After qualifying for the long jump on the opening day of prelims, Stacy Brown returned to the runway and qualified for the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 16.05m (52-8). The jump also ranks as the No. 9 jump in Texas history.
Harris later went on to qualify for two individual events in both the 100m and 200m. Harris ran a wind-aided time of 10.12 in the 100m and finished with the third-fastest time in the 200m at 20.32.
All three Longhorns entered in Friday's 400m quarterfinals punched their tickets to Hayward Field, led by Jonathan Jones who recorded the fastest time of the day at 44.85. Jones now holds seven of the top-10 times in Texas history in the event.
Wright made his way into his second qualified event, running a personal-best time of 45.23. The time is the eighth-fastest time at Texas. Brian Herron also set a personal-best time on his way to Nationals with a time of 45.25 – tied for the ninth fastest time in UT history.
Yusuf Bizimana and Charles Brockman both set season-best times on Friday to advance to nationals. Bizimana ran the fourth-fastest time in the 800m at 1:47.05, while Brockman finished third in the third heat with a time of 49.81 to advance.
Texas closed out the day with a 4x400 relay program record. Jon Maas, Jones, Wright and Herron ran the fastest time out of the west at 3:00.71 to break the record and send Texas back to nationals.
