No. 6 Men’s Golf climbs into tie for eighth after day two at NCAA Championship

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The No. 6 Texas Men's Golf team posted an 11-over-par 291 on Saturday to move into a tie for eighth place in the team standings following the second round of the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club. Senior Parker Coody paced the Longhorns with an even-par 70 on Saturday and is tied for 14th in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 2-over-par 142 (72-70).
The Longhorns, who began Saturday's second round in a tie for 11th, have registered a two-round score of 22-over-par 582 (291-291). Oklahoma holds the team lead after the first 36 holes at 2-over-par 562 (287-275). Vanderbilt is two strokes off the pace in second place at 4-over-par 564 (282-282), while Oklahoma State is third at 6-over-par 566 (289-277).
Vanderbilt's Cole Sherwood owns the 36-hole individual lead at 3-under-par 137 (70-67). He is one stroke in front of Aman Gupta of Oklahoma State (73-65) and Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt (70-68) at 2-under-par 138. A total of five individuals in the field of 156 players have recorded under-par scores through the first 36 holes.
The 2022 NCAA Championships continue with stroke play for all 30 teams on Sunday, May 29. In Sunday's third round, the Longhorns will be paired with Auburn and Arizona State, and tee times will begin at 9:05 a.m. CT (7:05 a.m. PT) from hole 1.
The field will be cut to the top 15 teams following Sunday's third round. The fourth and final round of stroke play is set for Monday, May 30, and the individual NCAA champion will be crowned following the completion of 72 holes of stroke play.
The top eight teams following Monday's final round of stroke play will advance to the NCAA Match Play Championships. Quarterfinals and semifinals will be held on Tuesday, May 31, while the NCAA Championship match is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1.
The Lineup
- Senior Parker Coody carded an even-par 70 on Saturday and is tied for 14th place in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 2-over-par 142 (72-70). After starting his round bogey-bogey in his first two holes, he responded with birdies on holes 3 and 4. Coody ended his round by making 14 consecutive pars.
- Junior Travis Vick fired a 1-over-par 71 in the second round and is tied for 53rd at 7-over-par 147 (76-71). He made back-to-back birdies on holes 2 and 3 and was 2-under through his first 10 holes.
- Senior Cole Hammer recorded a 5-over-par 75 on Saturday and is tied for 42nd at 6-over-par 146 (71-75). He made a pair of birdies during his second round.
- Senior Pierceson Coody registered a 5-over-par 75 in the second round and is tied for 53rd at 7-over-par 147 (72-75).
- Junior Mason Nome tallied a 5-over-par 75 on Saturday and is tied for 109th at 12-over-par 152 (77-75).
