Men’s Golf quartet earns PING All-America honors

Pierceson Coody and Vick claim second-team mention, Hammer tabbed third team and Parker Coody selected Honorable Mention.
AUSTIN, Texas — A quartet of University of Texas men's golfers each earned spots on the 2022 Division I PING All-America Teams announced Tuesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). Senior Pierceson Coody and junior Travis Vick claimed second-team honors, while senior Cole Hammer was tabbed to the third team and senior Parker Coody was selected as Honorable Mention.
Pierceson Coody earned his fourth career All-America honor, as he previously earned first-team mention in 2021 (junior), second-team accolades in 2020 (sophomore) and Honorable Mention recognition in 2019 (freshman). He is just the fifth individual in program history to claim four All-America accolades, joining Justin Leonard (1991-94), Brad Elder (1995-98), Jason Hartwick (2001-04) and Doug Ghim (2015-18) on the prestigious list. Coody posted a 71.00 stroke average and recorded two top-two and seven top-20 individual finishes in eight stroke-play events during the 2021-22 season. He earned individual medalist honors with a six-stroke victory at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational (April 2-3) at 17-under-par 199 (67-66-66) and was named the Big 12 Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for March based on his performance at the Haskins Award Invitational. Coody also tied for second at the Western Intercollegiate (April 11-13) at 2-over-par 212 (70-73-69).
Vick received his second career All-America honor, as he previously earned Honorable Mention recognition in 2021 as a sophomore. He posted a team-best 70.84 stroke average and registered three top-five, six top-10 and nine top-20 individual finishes in 12 stroke-play events during the 2021-22 season. Vick tallied a 2-1 mark in NCAA Match Play, including a 4&3 win over Reid Davenport of Vanderbilt in the semifinals and the clinching 1-up victory against Arizona State's Cameron Sisk in the final. Vick recorded a career-best second-place individual finish at the NCAA Norman Regional (May 16-18) at 10-under-par 206 (67-67-72).
Hammer picked up his third career All-America honor, as he previously earned Honorable Mention recognition in 2021 (junior) and first-team accolades in 2019 (freshman). One of five finalists for the 2022 Byron Nelson Award presented by Srixon/Cleveland Golf that is given annually to the outstanding Division I, II, III or NAIA scholar-athlete of the year, he also earned a spot on the 2022 CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Academic All-District 7 first-team in the Men's At-Large sports division. Hammer tallied a 71.08 stroke average and registered five top-10 and eight top-15 individual finishes in 12 stroke-play events this season. He posted a season-best tie for second at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (Feb. 27-March 1) at 11-under-par 205 (71-67-67). Hammer also tied for the third at the Big 12 Championship (April 25-27) at 5-under-par 211 (70-70-71) and was named to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team.
Parker Coody received his third career All-America honor, as he previously garnered Honorable Mention recognition in both 2021 (junior) and 2019 (freshman). He registered a 71.71 stroke average and tallied four top-10 individual finishes in 10 stroke-play events this season. Coody produced a sixth-place showing at the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational (Sept. 13-15) at 3-under-par 213 (72-68-73). He also tied for ninth at the Big 12 Championship (April 25-27) at 2-under-par 214 (70-73-71) and was named to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team. Coody finished in a four-way tie atop the individual leaderboard at the NCAA Championship Stroke Play with a 72-hole score of even-par 280 (72-780-68-70), before falling in a playoff to Vanderbilt's Gordon Sargent. By virtue of his top-15 finish in the individual standings at the NCAA Championships Stroke Play, Coody automatically earned Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-America honors.
The quartet led the Longhorns to the 2022 NCAA Championship with a 3-2 victory over Arizona in the championship match on June 1. Texas claimed its fourth NCAA team title in program history, as UT previously claimed the championship in 1971, 1972 and 2012.
