No. 21 Soccer snaps skid, bounces back into win column
10.01.2023 | Soccer
Texas is now 13-0-3 over their last 16 matches during the month of October following Sunday’s win
LAWRENCE, Kansas – For the sixth time in her collegiate soccer career, Trinity Byars recorded a brace — two-goal performance — as the Longhorns traveled to the Sunflower State and knocked off Kansas, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.
It took the entire 45-minute first half and then an additional 11 minutes before either team broke through in the goal column as Trinity Byars netted her 12th on the season after taking a loose pass from Kansas' goalkeeper in the 18-yard box and burying it to push the Longhorns ahead.
20 minutes later, Byars was credited with her second brace of the season as the junior forward took a final-third pass from Lexi Missimo and Liz Worden and put it into the back of the net. It marked the seventh time this season and 18th time in their collegiate soccer careers that Missimo was credited with an assist on a Byars goal.
FROM HEAD COACH ANGELA KELLY
"You have to give credit to Kansas; they were well organized. It was another hot day. We thought we were coming to Kansas, where it would be a little chillier, but it's a Sunday afternoon. Our first goal, credit to Lexi and Trinity up top and the team pressing, that was great. Then the second goal was a true futbol goal: ping, ping, ping. It was a really nice goal. This team gives everything all the time, so it was really important for us to get back in the win column. I'm just really, really pleased with the collective effort."
