MEET NOTES
The Matchup
Texas and SMU will square off in a dual meet on Friday. It marks the fourth consecutive year the teams will face off in a dual meet with Texas having won each of the previous three matchups.
A Look at the Longhorns
Last time out, Texas swept a pair of home dual meets against No. 4 NC State, winning 98-88 on Friday followed by an 80-68 victory on Saturday.
Carson Foster won two races and had four top-three individual results in helping Texas top the Wolfpack. His performance was highlighted by a victory in the 200 fly, in which he swam a 1:40.83, the third-fastest time in the nation this season and the fourth-fastest Longhorn in program history. Foster also collected a victory in the 200 IM with a time of 1:43.14, winning by 1.83 seconds to help Texas sweep the event.
Nick Harris swept the springboard events against NC State, winning by an average of 41.4 points. On Friday, he scored 424.43 points on 3-meter, the lone competitor to clear 400 points and winning by over 30 points. The Chester Springs, Pa. native followed that by scoring 412.05 points on 1-meter to win the event by over 50 points.
In Friday's action, Jake Foster won the 100 breast (51.85) and Luke Hobson the 500 free (4:13.82), while the 400 free relay squad of Peter Larson, Caspar Corbeau, Hobson and Daniel Krueger clocked a season-best 2:49.15 for the win.
On Saturday, David Johnston won the 1000 free in 8:41.62 and Krueger the 100 free in 42.67, while the Longhorns swept the 200 breast with Jake Foster winning in 1:53.62.
National Team
A total of eight current and former Longhorns were selected to the 2022-23 USA Swimming National Team. Chosen by their ranking among the six fastest swimmers in their respective event(s) from the past calendar year, the list of current Longhorns includes Alec Enyeart (1500 free), Carson Foster (200 free, 200 back, 200 fly, 200 IM, 400 IM), Jake Foster (200 breast, 400 IM), Luke Hobson (200 free) and David Johnston (800 free, 1500 free). The list of Texas Exes is made up of Drew Kibler (100 free, 200 free), Will Licon (300 breast) and Sam Stewart (200 IM). Additionally, Caspar Corbeau competes as a member of the Dutch national team.
FINA Short Course World Championships
- Carson Foster collected five medals and helped the United States take down the 4x200m freestyle relay world record this week. He earned a second silver on Friday, finishing runner-up in the 400m IM with a personal-best 3:57.63. He was joined in the final by his brother Jake Foster, who took sixth with a time of 4:02.51.
- The Fosters also collected medals for competing in relay preliminary races, with Carson collecting his fifth medal with a gold in the 4x100m medley relay and Jake receiving a gold in the 4x200m free relay.
- David Johnston advanced to two championship finals for the United States, taking fifth in the 800m freestyle with a time of 7:34.33 on Saturday and eighth in Tuesday's 1500m free final in 14:35.27.
- Caspar Corbeau competed for The Netherlands, advancing to the 100m breaststroke semifinals and placing sixth in his heat in 57.73, while clocking the 11th-fastest time in 200m breaststroke preliminary heats at 2:05.14.
USA Diving Winter Nationals
- Nick Harris earned a pair of medals, winning the national title on the 1-meter springboard and earning a bronze in the synchronized 3-meter with partner Max Fowler.
- On the 1-meter, Harris scored 699 points to top runner-up Jack Ryan by 2.6 points. He tallied at least 58.5 points on five of his six dives in the final round, highlighted by a 69.75-point inward 2 1/2 somersault tuck on his second-round dive.
- Harris and diving partner Max Fowler scored 650.25 points to earn the third-place result. In sixth place following the third round of the final, Harris and Fowler scored 63.24 points on an inward 3 1/2 somersault tuck to move into third. They closed out the competition with a pair of 60-plus point dives to clinch the bronze.
- Texas Divers won the women's team title with 130 points and earned a third-place finish on the men's side with 66 points. Collectively, Texas divers scored a combined 196 points to win the overall team competition.

Team Rankings
Texas is No. 5 in the latest College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) Division I poll (January 19) with 363 points. The top 10 in the rankings include Arizona State (449), California (432), Florida (411), NC State (386), TEXAS (363), Ohio State (363), Indiana (346), Tennessee (342), Auburn (301) and Texas A&M (272).
Storied Program
Texas placed second at the 2022 NCAA Championships and has claimed 15 NCAA Championships, finished runner-up 13 times and has a total of 35 top-3 finishes at the NCAA Championship meet. UT earned NCAA team titles in 1981, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2021.
Conference Dominance
The Longhorns have won all 26 Big 12 Conference titles and have claimed 43 consecutive crowns. This current streak dates to the 1980 Southwest Conference championship. Texas has earned a total of 63 conference titles (38 Southwest Conference, 26 Big 12 Conference).
Head Coach Eddie Reese
Eddie Reese is in his 46th season at the helm of the Texas program. A three-time U.S. Men's Olympic Team head coach (1992, 2004, 2008), Reese is the winningest coach in the sport's
history with 15 NCAA titles. He is the only collegiate swimming coach to win an NCAA team title in five separate decades.
