No. 15 Men’s Golf climbs to second after day two at Southern Highlands Collegiate

Stark posts a 4-under 68 to pace the Longhorns, while Maas is one stroke off the individual lead entering the final round.
LAS VEGAS — The No. 15 Texas Men's Golf team carded the low team round of the day with an 11-under-par 277 on Monday to climb to second place after the second round at the Southern Highlands Collegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Graduate Brian Stark paced the Longhorns with a 4-under-par 68 in the second round and is tied for 11th place in the individual standings with a two-round total of 4-under-par 140 (72-68).
Freshman Christiaan Maas, who fired his collegiate-best 18-hole score of 6-under-par 66 in Sunday's opening round, returned to post a 3-under-par 69 on Monday and is tied for third on the individual leaderboard with a 36-hole total of 9-under-par 135 (66-69).
No. 3 North Carolina owns a four-stroke lead over Texas in the team standings with a 36-hole total of 20-under-par 556 (271-285). The Longhorns are second at 16-under-par 560 (283-277), while No. 16 Pepperdine is third at 12-under-par 564 (278-286). The 15-team field features nine teams in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (Feb. 10).
North Carolina's Austin Greaser (64-70) and Yuxin Lee of Florida (64-70) share the individual lead after the second round at 10-under-par 134. Maas (66-69) is tied for third with Pepperdine's Sam Choi (64-71) at 9-under-par 135, just one stroke off the lead. A total of four Longhorns are among the top 15 in the individual standings, including Maas, Stark, freshman Tommy Morrison (tied for 11th at 4-under-par 140 while competing as an individual), and freshman Jacob Sosa (tied for 13th at three-under-par 141).
The Southern Highlands Collegiate concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday, Feb. 28. Texas will again be paired with North Carolina and Pepperdine for Tuesday's final round, and tee times will begin at 12:40 p.m. Central (10:40 a.m. Pacific) off the first tee.
The Lineup
- Graduate Brian Stark posted the low round of the day for the Longhorns on Monday with a 4-under-par 68 and is tied for 11th with a 36-hole total of 4-under-par 140 (72-68). He registered seven birdies during his second round and was 6-under through his first 12 holes on Monday.
- Freshman Christiaan Maas recorded a 3-under-par 69 on Monday and is tied for third at 9-under-par 135 (66-69), just one stroke off the lead entering Tuesday's final round. Maas tallied four birdies against just one bogey in his second round.
- Freshman Tommy Morrison, competing as an individual, fired a 2-under-par 70 for the second-straight round in his collegiate stroke-play tourney debut. He is tied for 11th at 4-under-par 140 (70-70). Morrison carded four birdies against two bogeys on Monday.
- Freshman Jacob Sosa posted a 2-under-par 70 on Monday and is tied for 13th at 3-under-par 141 (71-70). Sosa was 3-under at the turn and recorded five birdies during his second round.
- Freshman Keaton Vo carded a 2-under-par 70 in his second round and is tied for 25th at even-par 144 (74-70). Vo registered six birdies on Monday.
- Senior Travis Vick fired an even-par 72 on Monday and is tied for 47th at 3-over-par 147 (75-72). Vick was 4-under at the turn and recorded an eagle (on the par-five 9th hole) and three birdies in his second round.
