Baseball opens New Orleans series with 3-1 win

The Longhorns got stellar pitching from Lucas Gordon, Heston Tole and Zane Morehouse.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball picked up its eighth-straight victory, opening the series against New Orleans with a 3-1 win on Friday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (12-7) held the Privateers to just one unearned run on four hits in nine stellar innings pitched.
Lucas Gordon started and pitched six innings and allowed just one unearned run on two hits and one walk. He struck out six batters and improved to 2-0 on the season.
Heston Tole gave the Longhorns two hitless and scoreless innings out of the bullpen in the eighth and ninth innings.
Zane Morehouse closed out his second-consecutive game to pick up his second save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Porter Brown went 3-for-4 with one RBI, while Eric Kennedy and Peyton Powell both had two hits in the game.
New Orleans scored an unearned run in the top of the first to go up 1-0. The leadoff man walked, moved to second on a passed ball, third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Texas had an immediate answer and scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. Kennedy started the game with a walk before Powell singled to put two runners on. Dylan Campbell reached on a fielder's choice groundout and stole second base to put two runners in scoring position.
Garret Guillemette drove in the first run of the game with an RBI groundout and Brown gave Texas the lead with a two-out RBI single to right field.
The Longhorns scored an unearned run in the third to extend their lead to 3-1. Texas loaded the bases on infield singles by Campbell and Brown and a walk to Jack O'Dowd. An errant pickoff attempt allowed the run to cross the plate.
Texas and New Orleans will square off in Game 2 of the series on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
