No. 11 Men’s Golf tied for fifth place after day one at Valspar Collegiate Invitational

Stark fires a 36-hole score of 3-under-par and is tied for 15th in the individual standings.
PALM CITY, Fla. — The No. 11 Texas Men's Golf team carded a 36-hole score of 5-under-par 563 (280-283) on Monday to rest in a tie for fifth place after the opening day at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club. Graduate Brian Stark fired a 3-under-par 139 (68-71) and is tied for 15th in the individual standings after the opening two rounds.
No. 3 Texas Tech holds the 36-hole lead in the team standings after posting an 18-under-par 550 (277-273) on Monday. No. 4 North Carolina is second at 15-under-par 553 (275-278), while No. 8 Florida State is third at 10-under-par 558 (272-286). The 16-team field features eight teams in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (Mar. 24), including three squads in the top four and five in the top 10.
Texas Tech's Ludvig Aberg tallied a 36-hole total of 10-under-par 132 (65-67) and holds a three-stroke lead in the individual standings over a trio of players. Houston's Wolfgang Glawe, David Ford of North Carolina and Georgia Southern's Ben Carr all are at 7-under-par 135.
The Valspar Collegiate Invitational concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday, Mar. 28. Texas will be paired with Ohio State, Texas A&M and Houston for Tuesday's final round, and tee times for the shotgun start will begin at 7:30 a.m. Central (8:30 a.m. Eastern).
The Lineup
- Graduate Brian Stark carded a 36-hole total of 3-under-par 139 (68-71) on Monday and is tied for 15th place in the individual standings. In his opening round, he tallied six birdies and one eagle (par-five 15th hole). Stark returned to record four birdies in his afternoon round.
- Freshman Christiaan Maas registered a 36-hole score of 2-under-par 140 (69-71) and is tied for 20th in the individual standings. He posted three birdies and an eagle (par-five 15th hole) in his morning round and returned to record five birdies in his afternoon round.
- Freshman Jacob Sosa fired a 36-hole total of 1-under-par 141 (72-69) and is tied for 25th in the individual standings. He carded six birdies in his afternoon round on Monday.
- Freshman Tommy Morrison registered a 36-hole score of 1-over-par 143 (71-72) and is tied for 31st place. He posted three birdies and an eagle (par-five 15th hole) in his morning round. In his afternoon round, Morrison was 5-over at the turn but rallied to record four birdies without a bogey on his final nine holes (played the back nine first) to post a 1-over 72.
- Freshman Keaton Vo (72-75) and senior Travis Vick (72-75) both carded 36-hole scores of 5-over-par 147 and are tied for 56th place. Vick is competing as an individual in this tournament.
