No. 11 Men’s Golf places sixth at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational

Longhorns fire a 10-under 278 in Sunday’s final round, and Maas and Stark post top-10 individual finishes.
AUGUSTA, Ga. — The No. 11 Texas Men's Golf team fired a 10-under-par 278 in Sunday's final round to place sixth at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club. Graduate Brian Stark (71-70-69) and freshman Christiaan Maas (69-73-68) each tied for eighth in the individual standings with 54-hole totals of 6-under-par 210.
Saturday's second-round play was suspended due to darkness with the Longhorns having completed holes 10-12. Sunday morning saw the conclusion of the second round, where Texas posted a team score of 1-over-par 289 to rest in sixth place in the team standings at 3-under-par 573.
The Longhorns carded their best round of the tournament during Sunday afternoon's final 18 holes, counting three under-par rounds and one score of even par. Maas posted a 4-under-par 68, while both Stark and freshman Jacob Sosa fired scores of 3-under-par 69 and senior Travis Vick added an even-par 72.
Texas registered a 54-hole total of 13-under-par 851 (284-289-278) to finish just two strokes behind East Tennessee State in fourth place at 15-under-par 849. No. 12 Florida won the team title with a score of 39-under-par 825 (276-274-275), and No. 5 Illinois took second at 27-under-par 837 (280-275-282). The 15-team field featured six teams in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll (Mar. 24).
Florida's Fred Biondi claimed individual medalist honors with a three-round total of 15-under-par 201 (66-70-65). Adrien Dumont de Chassart of Illinois finished runner-up at 13-under-par 203 (69-65-69), while UCF's Luis Carrera took third at 12-under-par 204 (67-68-69).
Texas returns to the course on April 14-15 (Friday-Saturday) when it heads to Tempe, Arizona to compete in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational.
The Lineup
- Freshman Christiaan Maas posted a 4-under-par 68 in Sunday's final round to jump up eight spots and record a tie for eighth place in the individual standings with a three-round total of 6-under-par 210 (69-73-68). He registered four birdies without a bogey over his final 18 holes. During his eight stroke-play appearances this year, Maas has now recorded five top-10 and eight top-20 individual finishes.
- Graduate Brian Stark carded a 3-under-par 69 during his final round to climb three spots into a tie for eighth in the individual standings with a 54-hole score of 6-under-par 210 (71-70-69). He posted four birdies against one bogey in Sunday's final round. Stark registered his second-straight top-10 individual showing after a tie for fourth at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 27-28) at 9-under-par 204 (68-71-65).
- Freshman Jacob Sosa fired a 3-under-par 69 in Sunday's final round to jump up 10 spots and tie for 16th in the individual standings with a three-round total of 3-under-par 213 (72-72-69). He tallied four birdies against one bogey over his final 18 holes. In his six stroke-play appearances this year, Sosa has now registered three top-20 individual finishes.
- Freshman Tommy Morrison carded a 1-over-par 73 during his final round to tie for 36th at 3-over-par 219 (72-74-73). He registered six birdies over his final 18 holes.
- Senior Travis Vick fired an even-par 72 in Sunday's final round to tie for 42nd at 5-over-par 221 (72-77-72). Vick posted a pair of birdies in his final round.
