No. 12 Men's TF's Nubbe crowned Big 12 hammer throw champion

Texas men sit in second place with 19 points and women are sixth with seven points after day one.
NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 12/1 Texas track and field program concluded the first day of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships hosted by the University of Oklahoma.
After three scored events the men sit in second place with 19 points, while the women rank sixth with seven.
Freshman Jeremiah Nubbe was crowned the first conference champion for the Longhorns after winning the men's hammer throw with a heave of 69.56m (228-02). The throw is the second best throw in Texas history behind his own Texas record he set at the Texas Relays. Nubbe became the second ever hammer throw champion for Texas, joining Dylan Armstrong who was crowned in 2001 and gave the Longhorns 10 team points.
The men's 10,000-meter run was led by sophomore Isaac Alonzo who finished third with his time of 29:49.78 to score six points. Freshman Nathanael Berhane scored his first conference track points finishing seventh with a personal best time of 30:39.88 to add two points and Haftu Knight added the final point for the men with his eighth-place finish at 30:47.17.
The women's distance trio of Beth Ramos, Monica Hebner and Isabel Hebner scored all seven team points for Texas from the women's 10K. Ramos led the Longhorns with a fifth-place finish from her time of 35:13.39. Monica finished seventh with a time of 35:33.30 and Isabel finished just behind in eighth at 35:49.12.
Junior Kristine Blazevica began her hunt for her third Big 12 heptathlon title and leads the field of 15 after the first four events. The three-time All American began the day with a personal best time of 13.38 in the 100-meter hurdles to score 1,068 points. She added 928 points from the high jump after clearing 1.76m (5-9.25), just .01 off her personal best. She went on to throw 12.22m (40-1.25) in the shot put and finished with a personal best in the 200-meter with her time of 24.32 to conclude the day with 3,622 points.
The Longhorns begin the second day of competition with Blazevica in the long jump at 11 a.m. and will conclude with the men's 3000-meter steeplechase at 8 p.m.
