No. 15 Men’s Golf in fourth after second round at NCAA East Lansing Regional

Stark paces the Longhorns with a 2-under 69 on Tuesday, and Maas and Morrison are tied for 11th in the individual standings after 36 holes.
EAST LANSING, Mich. — The No. 15 Texas Men's Golf team posted a 3-under-par 281 on Tuesday to remain in fourth place in the team standings following the second round of the NCAA East Lansing Regional at Eagle Eye Golf Club. Graduate Brian Stark paced the Longhorns in the second round with a 2-under-par 69, as Texas counted four rounds of even-par or better on Tuesday.
The NCAA East Lansing Regional features 13 teams and 10 individual players. The low five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, scheduled for May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Georgia holds the team lead after the first 36 holes at 28-under-par 540 (266-274) and is followed by No. 3 Illinois in second at 18-under-par 550 (272-278) and No. 22 Oregon in third at 15-under-par 553 (279-274). The Longhorns are in fourth place with a two-round total of 12-under-par 556 (275-281), one stroke in front of host Michigan State in fifth at 11-under-par 557 (272-285). Texas has an eight-stroke cushion over both No. 10 Florida and Kansas State, who are tied for sixth at 4-under-par 564, entering Wednesday's final round.
In addition to Stark's 69, the Longhorns counted rounds of 1-under-par 70 from freshman Tommy Morrison and even-par 71 from both freshman Christiaan Maas and senior Mason Nome. Morrison (68-70) and Maas (67-71) are tied for 11th place in the individual standings at 4-under-par 138. Georgia's Ben Van Wyk owns the 36-hole individual lead at 9-under-par 133 (65-68), while Owen Avrit of Oregon and Georgia's Caleb Manuel are tied for second at 8-under-par 134.
The NCAA East Lansing Regional concludes with 18 holes on Wednesday, May 17. Texas will be paired with Michigan State and Kansas State for Wednesday's third and final round, and tee times will begin at 9 a.m. Eastern/8 a.m. CT off the 10th tee.
The Lineup
- Graduate Brian Stark paced the Longhorns with a 2-under-par 69 on Tuesday and moved up 24 spots into a tie for 42nd place in the individual standings with a two-round total of 2-over-par 144 (75-69). Starting on the back nine, Stark recorded six-straight pars before carding a bogey on hole 16. He rallied to post a birdie on the par-three 17th island green and added an eagle on the par-five 18th hole. Stark closed out his round with nine-consecutive pars to finish at 2-under on the day.
- Freshman Tommy Morrison carded a 1-under-par 70 in his second round and is tied for 11th on the individual leaderboard at 4-under-par 138 (68-70). Morrison was 1-over through his first eight holes on Tuesday, but he earned birdies on holes 18 and 3 along with making eight pars to finish at 1-under.
- Freshman Christiaan Maas posted an even-par 71 on Tuesday and is tied for 11th with Morrison at 4-under-par 138 (67-71). Maas was 2-over through his first 14 holes, but he rallied to record birdies on holes 6 and 9 to climb back to even-par for the day.
- Senior Mason Nome fired an even-par 71 in the second round and is tied for 37th at 1-over-par 143 (72-71). Nome was 1-over through his opening four holes but registered four-straight pars before making a birdie on the par-five 18th hole to make the turn at even-par. He added on birdie against one bogey on the closing front nine to remain at even-par.
- Freshman Keaton Vo recorded a 3-over-par 74 on Tuesday and is tied for 31st place at even-par 142 (68-74). He registered one birdie (par-four 11th hole) and 16 pars during his second round.
