No. 15 Men’s Golf advances to NCAA Championship

Stark fires 2-under 69 and Morrison posts career-best tie for eighth to lead the Longhorns to their 16th-consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship.
EAST LANSING, Mich. — The No. 15 Texas Men's Golf team carded a 2-over-par 286 on Wednesday to finish in fifth place in the team standings at the NCAA East Lansing Regional at Eagle Eye Golf Club. With their top-five team finish at the NCAA Regional, the Longhorns advance to the NCAA Championship on May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Texas extended its nation's-longest current streak of consecutive Division I Men's NCAA Golf Championship appearances to 16, dating back to the 2008 season. Oklahoma ranks second on the active streak list with 12.
The East Lansing Regional featured 13 teams and 10 individual players. The low five teams and the low individual not on those five qualifying teams advance to the NCAA Championship. The Longhorns posted a three-round score of 10-under-par 842 (275-281-286) to finish three strokes safely above the team cut line, as Kansas State placed sixth at 7-under-par 845 (281-283-281).
Georgia won the team title with a 54-hole score of 29-under-par 823 (266-274-283). No. 3 Illinois placed second at 21-under-par 831 (272-278-281) and was followed by No. 22 Oregon in third at 14-under-par 838 (279-274-285) and No. 10 Florida in fourth at 11-under-par 841 (280-284-276).
Graduate Brian Stark paced the Longhorns in the final round with a 2-under-par 69 for the second straight day and finished in a tie for 25th place in the individual standings with a 54-hole total of even-par 213 (75-69-69).
Freshman Tommy Morrison completed his breakout performance at the East Lansing Regional with a career-best tie for eighth-place finish in the individual standings. Morrison fired a three-round score of 5-under-par 208 (68-70-70), and his final round on Wednesday was highlighted by a stretch of four-consecutive birdies on holes 18, 1, 2 and 3.
Georgia's Ben Van Wyk claimed individual medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 10-under-par 203 (65-68-70). Adrien Dumont de Chassart of Illinois, Kansas State's Luke O'Neill and Caleb Manuel of Georgia shared runner-up honors at 7-under-par 206.
The Lineup
- Freshman Tommy Morrison fired a 1-under-par 70 in his final round to place in a tie for eighth in the individual standings with a three-round score of 5-under-par 208 (68-70-70). This marked a collegiate-best finish for Morrison, topping his tie for ninth place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate (Feb. 26-28) where he competed as an individual. Morrison was 2-over through his opening eight holes on Wednesday, but he rallied to record four-straight birdies on 18, 1, 2 and 3 to climb to 2-under. He made a bogey on 3 to fall back to 1-under and closed his round with five consecutive pars.
- Graduate Brian Stark paced the Longhorns with a 2-under-par 69 for the second straight day and moved up 17 spots to finish in a tie for 25th with a three-round total of even-par 213 (75-69-69). Stark was even-par through his first 14 holes on Wednesday before carding three-straight birdies at 6, 7 and 8 to climb to 3-under before closing with a bogey on hole 9.
- Freshman Christiaan Maas carded a 3-over-par 74 on Wednesday to finish in a tie for 20th with a 54-hole score of 1-under-par 212 (67-71-74). He tallied a pair of birdies (holes 14 and 3) in his final round.
- Freshman Keaton Vo posted a 2-over-par 73 in his final round to place in a tie for 33rd at 2-over-par 215 (68-74-73). He recorded a pair of birdies (holes 10 and 14) on Wednesday.
- Senior Mason Nome tallied a 6-over-par 77 on Wednesday and finished in a tie for 54th at 7-over-par 220 (72-71-77).
