No. 4 Men’s Golf in the lead after day one at The Ford Collegiate

Comegys is tied for the individual lead at 9-under through 36 holes.
RICHMOND HILL, Ga. — The No. 4 Texas Men's Golf team carded a two-round total of 30-under 530 (264-266) on Monday to build a seven-stroke lead after the opening day of The Ford Collegiate at Ford Field & River Club. Graduate Matt Comegys is tied for the individual lead at 9-under 131 (64-67), and all five Longhorns counting towards the team score are in the top 10 of the individual standings through the first 36 holes.
In Monday's morning round, Texas counted scores from Comegys (6-under 64, one stroke off his career-low 18-hole score of 63 set during in 2024 while at Texas Tech), senior Luke Potter (5-under 65), sophomore Daniel Bennett (4-under 66) and senior Christiaan Maas (1-under 69) for a team score of 16-under 264. During the afternoon round, the Longhorns counted scores from Maas (6-under 64, tied his career-low 18-hole round set twice before), Comegys (3-under 67), senior Tommy Morrison (3-under 67) and Bennett (2-under 68) for a team score of 14-under 266.
The Longhorns hold a seven-stroke lead in the team standings at 30-under 530 (264-266), while No. 1 Auburn is second at 23-under 537 (268-269). Tourney host Georgia Southern is third at 12-under 548 (272-276), and No. 7 LSU is fourth at 9-under 551 (271-280). The 12-team field features three squads in the top 10 and six teams in the top 25 of the latest Scoreboard powered by Clippd rankings (April 8).
Comegys (64-67) and Auburn's Cayden Pope (65-66) share the 36-hole individual lead at 9-under 131. Maas (69-64) is in a three-way tie for third at 7-under 133 with Morgan Blythe of Georgia Southern (67-66) and Auburn's Jackson Koivun (68-65). Potter (65-69) and Bennett (66-68) are in a three-way tie for sixth at 6-under 134 with Frankie Harris of South Carolina, and Morrison (69-67) is in a five-way tie for ninth at 4-under 136.
The Ford Collegiate concludes with a final round on Tuesday, April 14. Texas will be paired with Auburn and host Georgia Southern during Tuesday's final round which begins at 7:48 a.m. CT (8:48 a.m. ET).
The Lineup
- Graduate Matt Comegys carded a 36-hole total of 9-under 131 (64-67) and is tied for first in the individual standings. In his morning round, Comegys posted his season-low 18-hole score of 6-under 64, one stroke shy of his career-low 18-hole round of 63 set in the opening round of the 2024 Amer Ari Intercollegiate while he was competing at Texas Tech. He tallied seven birdies (holes 1, 3, 5, 9, 11, 14 and 18) against just one bogey (hole 15) en route to his 6-under 64. During his afternoon round, Comegys was 1-under through 12 holes but rallied for back-to-back birdies on holes 13 and 14 and finished with four-straight pars to close out his 3-under 67.
- Senior Christiaan Maas carded a two-round score of 7-under 133 (69-64) and is tied for third in the individual standings. After posting a 1-under 69 in his morning round, Maas returned in the afternoon and registered a clean card of six birdies (holes 2, 3, 5, 15, 16 and 18) and 12 pars to post his 6-under 64. The 6-under 64 was a season low and tied his career-low 18-hole score, set twice during his sophomore season in 2023-24.
- Senior Luke Potter recorded a 36-hole total of 6-under 134 (65-69) and is tied for sixth in the individual standings. In his morning round, Potter tallied seven birdies (holes 1, 3, 8, 9, 13, 14 and 16) against two bogeys to post his 5-under 65. He returned in the afternoon and tallied three birdies (holes 2, 3 and 8).
- Sophomore Daniel Bennett fired a two-round score of 6-under 134 (66-68) and is tied for sixth in the individual standings. During his morning round, Bennett posted five birdies (holes 1, 6, 7, 15 and 16) against just one bogey en route to his 4-under 66. He registered four birdies (holes 6, 13, 16 and 17) against two bogeys in his afternoon round.
- Senior Tommy Morrison fired a 36-hole total of 4-under 136 (69-67) and is tied for ninth in the individual standings. After posting a 1-under 69 in his morning round, Morrison returned in the afternoon and was 1-under through 15 holes before rallying to make birdies on 16 and 18 to close out his 3-under 67.
- Competing as an individual, sophomore Eduardo Derbez Torres registered a two-round score of 7-over 147 (72-75) and is tied for 58th in the individual standings.
