LAKE ELMO, Minn. — The No. 7 Texas Women's Golf team finished in sixth place in their first event of the season, the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M on Wednesday at Royal Golf Club.
The Longhorns shot 288-280-289 for an 857 total at seven-under-par for the tournament. Texas finished ahead of No. 6 Mississippi State and No. 10 Florida State on the team leaderboard. The 12-team field featured nine squads ranked in the top 13 of the WGCA Coaches Poll.
Freshman Farah O'Keefe led the Longhorns with a seven-under-par score for the tournament. Her seven-under-par 209 (71-67-71) ties the Texas best individual score at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. Head Coach Ryan Murphy on the ANNIKA Intercollegiate
"It's always a tough start at the Annika with the field being so strong. It's an early-season litmus test to see where your team is at the moment. We did a lot of good things and beat some good teams. But, if we are to really compete with the best teams in the country we need to sharpen particular areas. It's good to identify things in early September and iron it all out through the season."
"I'm proud of Farah's finish, obviously. She had a chance coming to the house and had some good looks at birdie and it just didn't happen there at the end. It's coming though and she does so many things really well. Right now most of her game is maintenance and she just needs to continue to be patient with the putter. Big things ahead for Farah, proud of her!"
