No. 11 Men’s Golf in second after day two at OFCC/Fighting Illini Invite

Maas fires a 6-under 64 to climb into third place in the individual standings.
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. — The No. 11 Texas Men's Golf team carded an even-par 280 on Saturday and rests in second place after the second round at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields Country Club. Sophomore Christiaan Maas posted a collegiate-best 6-under 64 and climbed into third place in the individual standings.
No. 1 North Carolina fired an impressive 11-under 269 on Saturday to take the 36-hole lead in the team standings with a two-round total of 10-under-par 550 (281-269). The Longhorns are second at 4-under-par 556 (276-280), while No. 4 Georgia Tech is in third at 3-under-par 557 (277-280). The 15-team field features 11 teams in the preseason Bushnell/Golfweek Division I Coaches poll.
Christo Lamprecht of Georgia Tech owns the individual lead with a 36-hole total of 9-under-par 131 (65-66). North Carolina's Maxwell Ford is one shot behind Lamprecht in second at 8-under-par 132 (67-65). Maas is third at 7-under-par 133 (69-64), while teammate sophomore Jacob Sosa is fourth at 5-under-par 135 (66-69).
Maas set his collegiate low for an 18-hole round with his 6-under 64 on Saturday. His previous best was a 6-under 66 in the opening round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate last spring during his freshman season.
The OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational concludes with 18 holes on Sunday, Sept. 17. Texas will again be paired with North Carolina and Georgia Tech for Sunday's final round, and tee times will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Central.
The Lineup
- Sophomore Christiaan Maas carded a collegiate low 18-hole score of 6-under-par 64 on Saturday and is third in the individual standings with a two-round total of 7-under-par 133 (69-64). He topped his previous low 18-hole score of 6-under 66 set in the opening round at the Southern Highlands Collegiate last spring. During Saturday's round, Maas recorded a clean sheet with birdies on holes 2, 5, 8 and 13 before an eagle on the par-five 15th.
- Sophomore Jacob Sosa posted a 1-under 69 on Saturday and is fourth in the individual standings with a 36-hole total of 5-under-par 135 (66-69). Sitting at 1-over thru his first 11 holes on Saturday, Sosa made back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13 before closing out his round with five-straight pars. He registered a total of five birdies during his second round.
- Sophomore Tommy Morrison carded a 1-over 71 on Saturday and is tied for 37th with a two-round total of 4-over-par 144 (73-71). He registered three birdies during his second round.
- Graduate Brian Stark recorded a 6-over 76 on Saturday and is tied for 37th with a 36-hole score of 4-over-par 144 (68-76).
- Sophomore Keaton Vo tallied a 6-over 76 on Saturday and is tied for 71st with a two-round total of 9-over-par 149 (73-76).
