No. 9 Volleyball sweeps Oklahoma

The Longhorns and Sooners will square off again on Saturday at 6 p.m. at McCasland Field House.
NORMAN, Okla. – No. 9 Texas Volleyball swept Oklahoma, 28-26, 25-18, 30-28, in the first match between on the teams on Friday at McCasland Field House.
The Longhorns (6-3, 1-0) will square off with the Sooners again on Saturday at 6 p.m. Despite the match being a sweep, it was a very tightly contested throughout with both the first and third sets going to extra points.
Madisen Skinner led all players with 19 kills, while hitting .375 in the match. Jenna Wenaas added 10 kills and hit .370.
Molly Phillips had four kills on just seven swings and led the team with three total blocks. Asjia O'Neal added five kills and two blocks, while Bella Bergmark finished with two kills and two blocks.
Ella Swindle finished with 35 assists, a team-high three service aces, four digs and three kills.
Emma Halter led the team with 10 digs and added four assists, while Carissa Barnes had seven digs.
The Longhorns battled for a 28-26 win in the first set after trailing 23-21 late. Skinner finished the set with eight kills on 16 swings for a .438 hitting percentage. Oklahoma had set point at 25-24 before Texas finished the set on a 4-1 run.
The second set was not as eventful as the first, with Texas leading nearly the entire way outside of an early 5-5 tie. The Longhorns hit .406 in the set and held the Sooners to a .189 hitting percentage.
The third and final set was a marathon, as Texas fought off set point twice to grind out the 30-28 win to complete the sweep. The Longhorns were down 14-10 before using an 8-1 run to pull ahead. Oklahoma countered with a 5-0 run to retake the lead 21-19 and the teams went back-and-forth from there.
