Track claims eight events on final day of Rod McCravy Memorial Invite

Sam Hurley earns second win of the weekend and Cole Lindhorst returns with nation-leading 800 time.
LOUISVILLE, Ky – Texas track and field registered eight event wins on the final day of the Rod McCravy Memorial Invite hosted by the University of Kentucky on Saturday.
Junior Sam Hurley earned his second win and personal-best mark of the weekend after clearing 5.03m (16-6) in the men's pole vault.
Fifth-year Marilyn Nwora led a group of Longhorns in the women's shot put with her winning throw of 17.44m (57-2.25). The throw improves her spot at No. 3 on the Texas All-Time performer list and marks a new personal best. Freshman Nina Ndubuisi made her collegiate debut with a second-place finish at 17.42m (57-2) and moved to No. 4 on the All-Time list. Chrystal Herpin finished third with her own PB at 16.76m (55-0) to move to No. 8, while Kiana Lowery finished sixth with a throw of 14.89m (48-10.25).
On the men's side, Patrick Piperi finished second with the best collegiate throw of 18.21m (59-9), while freshman Mike Piñones also debuted for Texas finishing third at 17.89m (58-8.5). Leo Neugebauer threw his own personal best at 17.10m (56-1.25).
Back on the track, sophomore Kendrick Smallwood won the men's 60-meter hurdles with his time of 7.73. Senior Caleb Cavanaugh finished sixth in 8.04 and Chris Brinkley finished seventh in 8.10. Akala Garrett finished sixth on the women's side in 8.32 for a new personal best.
The Longhorn later swept the 800-meter dash led by Cole Lindhorst on the men's side and Olivia Howell on the women's. Lindhorst's winning time of 1:47.39 lead the NCAA and improves his No. 4 spot on the All-Time Performer list in UT history and ranks as the No. 8 time in Texas history. Freshman Evan McGregor was fourth (1:52.53) and Logan Patete was sixth (1:57.45).
Howell, the 2023 NCAA Indoor Mile Champion at Illinois, made her Texas debut in the 800 with a winning time of 2:07.37. Mackenize Browne was the runner-up in 2:09.70 and Amity Ebarb finished third in 2:09.83.
The men's milers were led by freshman Jack Boyd who made his collegiate debut with a time of 4:11.02 to finish third. Patete finished fifth in 4:13.22 and fellow freshman Zain Hamdani finished 11th in 4:19.37. The women paced by Allison Litte who finished in 5:06.71 and Virginia Knight (5:09.71).
The distance squad later took on the 3,000-meter and was led by Eva Jess who finished second in the women's race at 9:33.07. The men were led by Hudson Heikkinen who finished in 8:20.28.
The Texas 4x400-meter relays swept the final events of the afternoon after Lauren Lewis, Kenondra Davis, Dejanea Oakley and Ziyah Holman led the women's 'A' team with a winning-time of 3:37.03. The men's 'A' team were led by Brinkley, Brian Herron, Cavanaugh and Elijah Mosley who finished in 3:08.96.
