Ackelia Smith (long jump) and Yusuf Bizimana (800m) posted the top marks in the NCAA this season.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Texas track and field had nine event wins led by Ackelia Smith and Yusuf Bizimana posting NCAA-leading marks at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center on Saturday.
In her long jump season opener, Ackelia Smith jumped 6.73m (22-1) for the best mark in the NCAA this season. The jump is a personal best for Smith and the third-best indoor long jump in UT history. Smith also has three of the top four indoor long jumps in program history. Aaliyah Foster was fourth in the long jump at 6.17m (20-3).
Yusuf Bizimana won the 800m and posted the top time in the NCAA this season at 1:46.47. The time also ranks as the No. 3 indoor performance in UT history. Elijah Mosley finished fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:50.01.
Trinity Tomlinson won the women's high jump with a personal-best mark of 1.82m (5-11.5), improving her No. 8 mark on the UT All-Time Performer List. Evelyn Lavielle finished fourth with her jump of 1.77m (5-9.75).
Leo Neugebauer moved up the UT All-Time performer list to No. 7 and tied the No. 14 all-time long jump in school history at 7.90m (25-11) to win the event. Solomon Washington finished second in the event with a jump of 7.78m (25-6.25) and Jathan Belaire was nineth at 7.22m (23-8.25).
Kaeli Thompson finished tied for first, clearing a personal best pole vault mark of 4.12m (13-6.25) and moves up to No. 7 on the UT All-Time performer list.
Jeremiah Nubbe got his second win of the season with a season-best throw of 21.45m (70-4). The throw ranks as the No. 8 throw in UT history.
In the men's 60m invite final, Marcellus Moore won with the sixth-fastest time in program history at 6.59, while Nolton Shelvin was third at 6.60.
Texas swept the podium in the 300m, with Brian Herron finishing first at 32.84, Christopher Brinkley Jr. second (33.20) and Caleb Hulbin third (33.57).
Texas had four of the top 10 finishers in the women's shot put, led by a second-place finish from Nina Ndubuisi with a throw of 17.63m (57-10.25). Chrystal Herpin finished third at 17.02m (55-10.25), Marilyn Nwora was fourth with a throw of 16.75m (54-11.5) and Kiana Lowery was ninth at 14.59m (47-10.5).
Lowery also had the No. 5 all-time weight throw in Texas history and finished fourth with a throw of 18.91m (62-0).
Brennan McHenry and Dylan Lineberger finished tied for the fourth in the men's high jump, while McHenry set as personal best with a 2.01m (6-7) jump.
The Longhorns are back in action next Friday and Saturday, January 26-27 at the John Thomas Terrier Collegiate Classic at Boston University.
