Texas staff inks pair of talented prep stars in Brooks Simmons and Adam Villanueva
AUSTIN, Texas — A pair of prep stars from the state of Texas have each signed an Athletic Scholarship Agreement (ASA) to play golf at The University of Texas, head coach John Fields announced Wednesday. Brooks Simmons and Adam Villanueva will join the Longhorns as freshmen for the 2025-26 season.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Simmons is the No. 12-ranked player in the nation and the No. 2-ranked player in the state of Texas in the class of 2025 by Junior Golf Scoreboard. He recently received 2024 Rolex AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) honorable mention All-America accolades. Simmons, who currently attends Highland Park High School, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills and claimed AJGA All-America honors in 2023. He also tied for fifth at the 2024 Western Junior Championship (June 18-20) and tied for second at the 2024 Mayakoba Invitational (May 10-13).
"Brooks is a gifted young golfer with touch and short-game abilities that match up with the best in America for his age," Fields said. "He is a tremendous talent who has a genuine love for the game. Brooks is one of the best junior golfers in the nation, and his record proves that. He will be a factor on day one as a Longhorn."
A native of Austin, Texas, Villanueva is the No. 5-ranked player in the nation and the top-ranked player in the state of Texas in the class of 2025 by Junior Golf Scoreboard. He recently received 2024 Rolex AJGA honorable mention All-America accolades. Villanueva, who currently attends Westlake High School, won the 2023 UIL 6A state individual title. He earned a runner-up finish at the 2024 Texas Junior Amateur (Sept. 21-23), placed fifth at the 2024 Byron Nelson Junior Championship (June 4-6) and claimed the individual title at the 2023 Mizuno Junior Championship (July 16-19) with a 54-hole score of 207 (65-71-71).
"Adam is a very special young Texan," Fields said. "A state high school champion who has busted out on the national scene, his physicality and vision for the game of golf are limitless. I look forward to Adam competing at a high level when he steps on the Forty Acres."
