Blackwood wins SEC 400m hurdles title to lead No. 11/14 Track & Field at Outdoor Championships

Smallwood breaks Texas 110mH record while Daniel and Birdow add podium finishes for Texas.
AUBURN, Ala. – Kody Blackwood won the men's 400-meter hurdles title and Kendrick Smallwood broke the Texas record in the 110-meter hurdles Saturday as No. 11/14 Texas Track & Field closed competition at the SEC Outdoor Championships with multiple medal performances at Hutsell-Rosen Track.
The Texas men finished seventh in the team standings with 57 points, while the women placed 10th with 36 points. Arkansas captured the men's team title with 110.5 points, while Florida won the women's championship with 107 points.
Blackwood highlighted the day for the Longhorns by winning the men's 400-meter hurdles title in a personal-best 48.26. His time tied the SEC Championship meet record, set a new facility record and moved him to No. 2 on the Texas all-time performer list with the third-fastest performance in school history.
Chris Brinkley Jr. added a point for Texas in the event with an eighth-place finish in 50.37.
In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Smallwood earned silver with a Texas-record time of 13.12, breaking his own school record and strengthening his hold on the top 15 performances in program history.
Kelsey Daniel also claimed silver for the Longhorns in the men's triple jump with a personal-best mark of 16.64m (54-7.25) on his final attempt of the competition. The jump moved Daniel to No. 4 on the Texas all-time performer list and ranks as the eighth-best performance in program history. Daniel opened the competition with a then-personal-best leap of 16.60m (54-5.50), which also ranks among the top 10 performances in school history.
On the women's side, Amelliah Birdow earned bronze in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 54.79. The performance moved Birdow to No. 3 on the Texas all-time performer list and ranks as the ninth-fastest time in program history. Mackenzie Collins added two more points for Texas with a seventh-place finish in 56.60.
Jeanne Le Goff collected her second fourth-place finish of the meet in the women's triple jump, recording an outdoor personal-best mark of 13.22m (43-4.50) to add another five points for Texas. The jump strengthened her position as the No. 8 performer in program history.
Texas added six more points in the women's 1,500 meters behind personal-best performances from Isabel Conde de Frankenberg and Mia Perez. Conde de Frankenberg placed fifth in 4:12.97, recording the fourth-fastest performance in Texas history, while Perez finished seventh in 4:14.18 to move to No. 3 on the Texas all-time performer list with the sixth-fastest performance in school history. Elizabeth Pickett placed 12th in 4:25.47.
In the men's discus, Shaiquan Dunn placed sixth with a personal-best throw of 59.30m (194-6) to add three points for Texas while moving to No. 9 on the Texas all-time performer list. David Jarolimek also competed and threw 51.90m (170-3).
Sophie Atkinson added another point for Texas in the women's 5,000 meters with an eighth-place finish in 16:03.64. Pickett followed in 11th with a time of 16:14.56.
In the relays, the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Smallwood, Xavier Butler, Jayden Jones and Gabriel Remy placed eighth in 39.31, while the women's 4x400-meter relay of Birdow, Ramiah Elliott, Anouk Krause-Jentsch and Bayleigh Minor finished eighth to in 3:28.52.
The men's 4x400-meter relay squad of Waly Bathily, Blackwood, Sihle Mahlangu and Logan Popelka closed out the meet placing sixth in a season-best 3:04.00.
Elsewhere in the field events, Osawese Agbonkonkon cleared 2.12m (6-11.50) in the men's high jump.
Nathanael Berhane represented Texas in the men's 5,000 meters, crossing in 13:58.57.
Next up for Texas is the NCAA West Preliminary Round, scheduled for May 27-30 in Fayetteville, Ark., at John McDonnell Field.
