No. 15 Baseball hammers St. John’s 15-4

Jalin Flores hit two home runs to lead the Longhorns to a dominant win on Tuesday.
AUSTIN, Texas – No. 15 Texas Baseball hammered St. John's 15-4 to close out a season-opening eight-game homestand on Tuesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (7-1) scored 15 runs on 13 hits, including five doubles and two home runs, to rally from an early deficit to the Red Storm.
Jalin Flores had a career day, going 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI. His first home run was a go-ahead grand slam in the fourth inning and his second was a two-run shot to center field in the seventh.
Will Gasparino also had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double and four RBI.
The 1-2 punch of Jared Thomas and Peyton Powell continued their great starts at the plate, with Thomas going 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored and Powell going 1-for-4 with a three-run double.
Luke Harrison pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and picked up the win, while Heston Tole, Hudson Hamilton, Grant Fontenot and Tanner Witt also had scoreless relief outings.
St. John's snapped the Longhorns three-game shutout streak with an unearned run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead.
The Longhorns grabbed their first lead, 2-1 with a pair of hits in the bottom of the second. Max Belyeu was hit by a pitch to get things started and Kimble Schuessler singled to put two runners on. With two outs, Gasparino singled to right field to drive in Belyeu before the ball got away and allowed Schuessler to score as well.
The Red Storm quickly retook the lead 3-2 with two runs in the third on a pair of doubles. A walk and a double chased starting pitcher Max Grubbs out of the game with two in scoring position. Harrison was called in from the bullpen and was greeted by a two-run double.
Texas put up a five spot on three hits and three free passes in the fourth to jump back in front 7-3. After a walk and a sacrifice bunt, Gasparino drove in his second run of the game with another RBI single. The Longhorns loaded the bases on two more free passes before Flores blasted his second grand slam of the season to left field.
St. John's got a run back in the top of the fifth and had the bases loaded but Heston Tole came out of the bullpen and got the Horns out of the jam.
The Longhorns tacked on three more runs on three hits in the fifth to make the lead 10-4. Gasparino hammered a double to right-center field to score two more runs and Jared Thomas drove him in with an RBI single.
Texas put together another five-run inning in the seventh, with yet another home run from Flores to extend the lead to 15-4. With the bases loaded and two outs, Powell cleared them with a three-run double. Flores followed that up with a two-run homer to center field for his first career multi-homer game.
The Longhorns will head on the road for the first time this season to play in the Astros Foundation College Classic at Minute Maid Park starting against LSU on Friday at 7 p.m. Texas will also play Texas State on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Vanderbilt on Sunday at 11 a.m.
