Texas looks to maintain winning ways on trip to San Marcos
AUSTIN, TX – Following a successful Lone Star State Invitational that saw Texas win four games, the Longhorns will hit the road, again, as they travel south down I-35 to play Texas State at Bobcat Softball Stadium in San Marcos at 6 p.m. CT on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

LEADING OFF
- Much like the 2023 season, this year's Texas freshman class are playing their part in the Longhorns' early-season success:
- Teagan Kavan (5) has earned 41.7 percent of the wins (12) picked up by the Texas pitching staff.
- She has also tossed 31.1 percent of the staff's innings and has 38.2 percent of the strikeouts.
- Offensively, Kayden Henry, Katie Stewart and Victoria Hunter are becoming threats for opposing teams' pitching staff.
- Henry (17), Stewart (14) and Hunter (8) have combined for 39 of the team's 143 hits or 27.3 percent.
- The trio also has 33 combined runs batted in (RBI) or 31.1 percent of the team's 106 RBI total. They also have 28.6 percent of the team's home run total through 13 games this season.

- Dating back to April 25, 2023, Reese Atwood has earned half (3) of the Big 12 Conference's six Player of the Week honor during that span.
- With her honor on Tuesday, Feb. 27, Texas has earned three consecutive Big 12 Player of the Week awards, the first school to earn 3-or-more in consecutive weeks since Oklahoma was selected in four straight weeks (March 21 – April 11) during the 2023 campaign.
- Atwood is also the first Big 12 softball student-athlete to earn the league's player of the week twice within a three-week span since Jocelyn Alo (March 16, March 30) in 2021.
- Following her five-home run week last week, Reese Atwood (9) is already 81.8 percent towards her home run season total (11) from the 2023 campaign.
- Atwood is now halfway to the program's single-season home run record (18) set by Taylor Hoagland set in 2012.
- It took Atwood just 204 career plate appearances in 70 collegiate softball games to reach the 20 career home run plateau, which is a home run every 10.2 at bats.
- The most home runs hit by a Big 12 softball student-athlete throughout the 2023 season came via a trio of Oklahoma Sooners (Alyssa Brito, Jayda Coleman and Tiare Jennings), which all hit 17 each.
- Atwood is now halfway to the program's single-season home run record (18) set by Taylor Hoagland set in 2012.
