Texas makes a trip to bayou to for top-three showdown in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. – On the heels of its first Big 12 Conference series win of the 2024 season, The University of Texas softball program will look to earn another win against a top-10 opponent when the Longhorns square off against No. 3/3 LSU on Tuesday, March 12 at 11 a.m. CT.
The breakfast-time matchup will be broadcast on SEC Network, where Kevin Brown and Amanda Scarborough will call the game's action for a nation-wide audience. Andrew Haynes can be heard with the game's radio call on https://texas.leanplayer.com/.
LEADING OFF
- When Texas and LSU square off on Tuesday morning, the Tigers will become the highest-ranked opponent for the Longhorns since UT knocked off then-No. 2 Tennessee, 2-1, during the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, Fla., on Friday, Feb. 16.
- Tuesday morning's game in Baton Rouge will mark the first true road game against a top-3 team for Texas since traveling to Norman, Okla., and playing then-No. 1 Oklahoma on April 2, 2023.
- Tuesday's contest will mark the first time Texas has played a softball game against LSU in Baton Rouge, La., since March 6, 2021, when the Tigers earned a 7-2 victory.
- All in all, the Longhorns are 2-3 against LSU in games played in Baton Rouge.
- Overall, the Tigers are claiming an 8-5 all-time series record over Texas since the first meeting between the two programs on Feb. 18, 2000, when the Tigers earned a 6-2 win in eight innings.
- Texas is looking for its first win over LSU in Baton Rouge since March 5, 2021, when the Longhorns won 8-5.
- Texas, however, is actually entering Tuesday's game on a three-game winning streak over LSU after taking all three matchups in Austin throughout the 2022 season.
- Overall, the Tigers are claiming an 8-5 all-time series record over Texas since the first meeting between the two programs on Feb. 18, 2000, when the Tigers earned a 6-2 win in eight innings.
- All in all, the Longhorns are 2-3 against LSU in games played in Baton Rouge.
- In 23 games so far this season, Reese Atwood has already drive in 40 runs, six shy of tying for ninth on the program's single-season list.
- The program's single-season RBI record is 66 set by Taylor Thom in 2013 and then matched by Lindsey Stephens the following season in 2014.
- If she successfully reaches base against LSU on Tuesday, Katie Stewart will have a 20-game on-base streak, which would tie Mia Scott (June 9, 2022 – March 4, 2023) for the longest on-base streak by an active Texas Longhorn softball student-athlete.
- Scott's 20-game on-base streak as the last time a Longhorn student-athlete reached the 20-game mark.
- Following her base hit at Houston on Sunday, March 10, Katie Stewart extended her active hitting streak to 15 consecutive games, which is tied for the sixth-longest hitting streak in program history.
- A hit against the Tigers would advance the streak to 16 straight games and would be the longest hitting streak by a Texas softball student-athlete since Lindsey Stephens (Feb. 15, 2014 – March 8, 2014) recorded a 16-game hitting streak throughout the 2014 season.
- Taylor Hoagland (April 29, 2010 – Feb. 26, 20110 holds the program record with a 26-game hitting streak that spanned the closing stages of the 2010 season and early portion of the following campaign.
- A hit against the Tigers would advance the streak to 16 straight games and would be the longest hitting streak by a Texas softball student-athlete since Lindsey Stephens (Feb. 15, 2014 – March 8, 2014) recorded a 16-game hitting streak throughout the 2014 season.
