No. 23 Baseball drops series opener to Washington

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 23 Texas Baseball took a 3-1 lead to the seventh but were unable to hold onto it and dropped the series opener 9-3 to Washington on Friday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (10-7) will look to bounce back in the second game of the series on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
Lebarron Johnson pitched six innings and allowed just one run on five hits, striking out a season-high 10 batters. He left with a 3-1 lead and was in line for his second win of the season before the big seventh inning.
Washington scored the first run of the game in the top of the third after a walk, a stolen base and a two-out RBI double to center field.
The Longhorn bats broke out in the fourth with three runs on a pair of hits to grab a 3-1 lead. Porter Brown and Rylan Galvan walked to start the inning and Max Belyeu sacrificed them into scoring position. Kimble Schuessler delivered with a two-run single up the middle to grab the lead. Jack O'Dowd followed up with an RBI double to drive in Schuessler and extend the lead.
The Huskies put together a big seventh inning, retaking the lead with six runs on six hits and an error off of a combination of David Shaw and Gage Boehm out of the bullpen.
Washington extended its lead in the ninth with two more runs off of Easton Tumis to make the score 9-3.
