The Longhorns won a weather-shortened game in eight innings to salvage the series.

AUSTIN, Texas – No. 23 Texas Baseball salvaged the series against Washington with a 4-3 win on Sunday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The start of the game was delayed nearly 90 minutes due to weather so the teams were only able to complete eight innings because of travel.

Max Grubbs pitched a career-high six innings and allowed just one run on five hits to pick up his second win of the season. He struck out two batters and did not allow a free pass.

Andre Duplantier II closed out the win in the eighth inning to pick up his first save of the season and the fifth of his career.

Jared Thomas went 1-for-1 with two walks, a sacrifice bunt and one run scored, while Jack O'Dowd went 2-for-3 with a double and one run scored.

The Longhorns scratched out two runs in the first without a hit in the inning to grab a 2-0 lead. Jared Thomas and Peyton Powell walked to start the game before a groundout moved them to second and third. Thomas then scored on a fielder's choice groundball by Porter Brown and Powell scored on a groundout by Rylan Galvan.

Texas took advantage of a couple more free passes in the second to extend the lead to 3-0 on a sacrifice fly by Jalin Flores.

Three more free passes in the third inning led to the fourth Texas run, as Thomas worked a bases-loaded walk to make the score 4-0.

Washington scratched out a run in the fourth inning on a single and a two-out RBI double.

The Huskies then made things interesting in the top of the eighth with a two-run homer to cut the lead to 4-3. Duplantier was then called in from the bullpen to slam the door.

The Longhorns (11-8) will continue their 10-game homestand this week by hosting Air Force on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday at 4 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
