No. 7 Women’s Tennis defeats Iowa State, 4-1

The Longhorns swept their two-match road trip and earned their eighth win in the last nine contests.
Ames, Iowa – No. 7 Texas Women's Tennis (15-4, 8-1) defeated Iowa State (5-11, 3-5), 4-1, on Saturday at the Ames High Tennis Complex. The match was played at Ames High due to renovations to Iowa State's tennis facilities.
After clinching the doubles point with wins at Nos. 3 and 1, Texas earned singles wins from sophomore Vivian Ovrootsky at No. 5, senior Charlotte Chavatipon at No. 3, and senior No. 111 Taisiya Pachkaleva at No. 4 for the clinch.
In doubles, Pachkaleva and freshman Shachf Lieberman were first off the court with a 6-0 sweep of Anna Kuearum and Valeska San Martin at No. 3.
Senior Malaika Rapolu and graduate Tanya Sasnouskaya then clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Isabella Dunlap and Ashlee Narker at No. 1. Iowa State broke in the opening game, but Texas answered the break and then held for a 2-1 lead. The Cyclones also held, but Rapolu and Sasnouskaya took it from there with a 4-0 run.
In the remaining match, Chavatipon and Ovrootsky led Gala Arangio and Juliette Nask, 5-2, at No. 2. The Longhorns broke the Cyclones' first two serves for a 3-0 lead before Iowa State broke back and held for 3-2. Texas then captured the final two games before play stopped.
In singles, Ovrootsky was off first with an efficient 6-2, 6-1 win over San Martin. In the first set, Ovrootsky grabbed the first break for a 3-2 lead, which also began a 4-0 run to take the set. San Martin then won the opening game of the second set on serve, but it was all Ovrootsky from there for the 6-1 win.
Chavatipon followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Dunlap to give Texas a 3-0 overall lead. Chavatipon began the match with a 9-0 run to give her the first set and establish a 3-0 lead in the second. Dunlap managed to win the next two games, but Chavatipon closed out the match on a 4-0 run.
A few minutes later, Pachkaleva clinched for the Longhorns a with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Nask. In the first set, Nask broke in the opening game and established a 3-1 lead that she later extended to 4-2. However, Pachkaleva equaled Chavatipon's 9-0 run with one of her own to claim the first set and set up a 5-0 lead in the second. Nask got one game on serve to finally halt the streak, but Pachkaleva served it out in the next game for the clinch.
That left the matches at Nos. 1 and 2 unfinished where No. 23 Rapolu and No. 32 Sansnouskaya both held leads.
Rapolu was ahead of Kuearum, 7-5, 3-1, at No. 1. In the first set, Rapolu broke for a 2-1 lead that she consolidated for 3-1, and although Kuearum took the next three games for a 4-3 lead that was extended to 5-4, Rapolu finished the set on a 3-0 run for the win. Kuearum picked up the first game of the second set on serve, but Rapolu against registered a 3-0 run before play stopped.
At No. 2, Sasnouskaya led Narker, 6-4, 4-3, when the overall match ended. Sasnouskaya broke and held to begin her match with a 2-0 lead that she later made 4-2. Narker got the break back for 4-4, but Sasnouskaya immediately secured another for a 5-4 lead before serving out the set. In the second, Sasnouskaya broke for a 3-2 lead, but Narker broke back and then held for the last of the scoring.
Up next, the Longhorns return home to take on No. 25 Texas Tech on Thursday, April 4, at 2 p.m. CT at the Texas Tennis Center.
