Baseball beats Abilene Christian 11-1

The Longhorns used an eight run fifth inning to roll to the midweek win over the Wildcats.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball used an eight run fifth inning and rolled to an 11-1 win over Abilene Christian on Tuesday night at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (18-11, 6-3) were led by Jalin Flores who had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double, two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored. Flores homered in the first and eighth innings to up his season total to 11, tying Max Belyeu for the team lead.
Jared Thomas went 2-for-3 with two RBI, three runs scored and hit his seventh home run of the season.
Chase Lummus started and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on four hits. Easton Tumis came into a jam in the fourth and got out of it unscathed. Tumis went on to pitch 1 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win.
Texas jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a couple of hits in the first inning. Thomas started the game with an eight-pitch walk and scored on an RBI double by Flores. With two outs, Kimble Schuessler drove in Flores with a single back up the middle.
Abilene Christian got one of the runs right back in the second after starting the inning with a double and scoring the run on a sacrifice fly.
The Wildcats loaded the bases in the top of the fourth before Easton Tumis came in from the bullpen to get out of the jam.
The Longhorns broke the game open in the fifth with an eight spot, batting around and sending 13 hitters to the plate, to take a 10-1 lead. Thomas and Flores both hit solo home runs for the first two runs of the inning before things got sloppy. Max Belyeu doubled on a shallow fly ball that fell in and Schuessler singled to put two on. Will Gasparino reached on a one-out error that allowed both Belyeu and Schuessler to score.
With two outs in the inning, Texas did even more damage. Rylan Galvan hit an RBI single up the middle and Dee Kennedy followed by dropping a single into center field. Thomas drove in his second run of the inning with a single lined off the pitcher. After a walk to Peyton Powell, Flores drove in two more runs with a single into center field to cap the inning.
Texas tacked on more run in the eighth on Flores' second solo homer of the game.
The Longhorns are back home at UFCU Disch-Falk Field this weekend to host BYU. The series gets underway on Thursday at 6:30 p.m., with Game 2 on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the series finale on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
