Baseball beats No. 18 Oklahoma, 8-6

The Longhorns took the first game of a doubleheader against the Sooners on Sunday.
NORMAN, Okla. – Texas Baseball picked up an 8-6 win over No. 18 Oklahoma to even the series in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
The Longhorns (26-18, 12-8) will go for the series victory in the second game of the doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. CT.
Jalin Flores went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI doubles, while Kimble Schuessler and Will Gasparino both hit solo home runs.
Chase Lummus had a clutch relief outing, pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing just one run on three hits to pick up the win. Gage Boehm tossed the final 2 1/3 innings to record his fifth save of the season.
The Longhorns scored a run in the first inning after Jared Thomas started the game with a single on an 11-pitch at-bat and Jalin Flores drove him in with an RBI double.
The Sooners quickly grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs off of Whitehead to make the score 2-1.
Texas retook the lead with three runs in the third, taking advantage of a slew of free bases. Thomas and Peyton Powell walked before Max Belyeu was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Thomas to score and Casey Borba drove in Powell and Belyeu with an RBI single up the middle.
Oklahoma had another answer in the bottom of the third, taking advantage of two walks to score two runs and tie the game up 4-4. The Sooners then went back in front in the fifth inning after a two-out walk and an RBI single.
The Longhorns jumped back into the lead in the sixth inning as Kimble Schuessler and Will Gasparino both hit solo home runs and Powell worked a bases-loaded walk.
Texas tacked on a run in the eighth inning to go up 8-5 after Gasparino was hit by a pitch and scored on an RBI double by Flores.
Oklahoma got a run across in the ninth inning but Boehm was still able to close out the win.
