The Longhorns got a great relief outing from Gage Boehm to secure the win.

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball held on for a narrow 4-3 win to even the series with BYU on Friday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Longhorns (19-13, 7-4) will go for the series win over the Cougars on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Ace Whitehead started and pitched 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on five hits to pick up his third win of the season. He finished one shy of his career high with six strikeouts.

Gage Boehm was perfect in relief to pick up his third save of the season. He logged 3 2/3 innings with five strikeouts and did not allow a baserunner.

Jalin Flores, who started the scoring with a first inning solo homer, went 2-for-3 with one RBI and three runs scored. Will Gasparino finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Max Belyeu was 1-for-2 with one RBI.

BYU tied the game up in the top of the third with a solo home run of its own off of Whitehead.

Texas retook the lead in the third inning, 3-1, doing all of the damage with two outs. Peyton Powell, Flores and Belyeu hit three-straight two-out singles to score the first run. Rylan Galvan reached on catcher's interference to load the bases before Gasparino legged out an infield single to drive in another run.

The Cougars hit their second solo homer of the game in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Longhorns tacked on another run in the fifth to make the score 4-2. After a couple of free passes and a sacrifice bunt, Gasparino drove in the run with a sacrifice fly.

BYU scored another run in the sixth and chased Whitehead out of the game but Boehm was able to get out of the jam and keep the 4-3 lead intact.

Boehm would then go the distance for the Longhorns and closed out the win.
