Baseball drops series finale to BYU

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball trailed early and could not complete the comeback, dropping the series to BYU 7-5 on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (19-13, 7-5) will look to bounce back with a pair of midweek games against Texas State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in San Marcos and Wednesday at 7 p.m. at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
Jalin Flores went 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, one RBI and two runs scored. Rylan Galvan
Andre Duplantier II had his second nice outing of the weekend, pitching 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Gage Boehm also had success, pitching two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
BYU grabbed an early lead, launching a two-run homer off of starter Max Grubbs in the top of the first.
The Longhorns had an opportunity to answer in the bottom of the first with back-to-back two-out walks but couldn't cash in. The Cougars then added to their lead in the second with two runs on three-straight singles to go up 4-0.
Porter Brown launched a solo home run in the bottom of the second, his sixth homer of the season, to get the Longhorns on the board.
BYU came right back and hit another two-run homer in the third inning to extend its lead to 6-1.
Texas had another big opportunity in the bottom of the third but left the bases loaded to end the inning.
The Longhorns did scratch out a run in the fourth with Jared Thomas hitting a sacrifice fly to score Brown.
The Cougars got the run right back in the top of the fifth as they hit another home run to go up 7-2.
Jalin Flores hit his 13th home run of the season to lead off the fifth inning to cut the lead to 7-3.
Texas chipped away at the lead with two runs in the seventh, as Rylan Galvan drove in Jalin Flores and Max Belyeu with an RBI double into the gap to make it 7-5. The Longhorns were then shut out in the eighth and ninth to come up short of the comeback.
