Baseball wins resumed game 9-1 over Texas State

AUSTIN, Texas – With nearly 24 hours between the eighth and ninth innings, Texas Baseball won a resumed game over Texas State 9-1 on Wednesday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
The Longhorns (20-13) held a 9-1 lead on Tuesday at Bobcat Ballpark before the game was halted due to inclement weather. The game was resumed on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and featured a scoreless ninth inning.
Chase Lummus started and pitched a career-high tying five shutout innings with three strikeouts to pick up the win. The only hit he allowed was to the first batter he faced to start the game. After working out of a bases-loaded jam in the first, Lummus would allow just one more baserunner and he retired the final 10 batters he faced.
Cade O'Hara pitched a scoreless eighth inning of relief on Tuesday night before weather halted the game. Then almost 21 hours later, O'Hara pitched a scoreless ninth inning to secure the win.
Jared Thomas had a huge day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and two runs scored. Porter Brown finished 1-for-4 and provided the winning runs with a three-run homer in the second inning.
Brown launched the Longhorns into an early lead with his three-run homer in the top of the second inning. Kimble Schuessler started the inning with a walk before Will Gasparino doubled to put two on. Brown followed up with a three-run shot to straight-away center field.
Texas extended the lead to 4-0 with a couple more hits in the third inning. After a leadoff single, Max Belyeu reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second base. Schuessler then followed up with an RBI single back up the middle.
The Longhorns tacked on an unearned run in the fifth inning to up the lead to 5-0. Flores and Belyeu both singled and Flores came all the way around to score on an errant pickoff attempt.
The Bobcats got on the board with a couple of hits off of Lebarron Johnson Jr. in the sixth to trim the lead to 5-1. Johnson pitched two innings of relief and allowed one run on four hits.
Texas got the run right back as Thomas blasted a solo home run out to center field in the seventh inning.
Just an inning later Thomas blew the game open with another homer, a three-run shot to center field in the eighth to make the score 9-1.
