Baseball falls to UCF, 5-4

ORLANDO, Fla. – Texas Baseball battled back from an early 4-0 deficit but were unable to complete the comeback and lost 5-4 to UCF on Saturday at John Euliano Park.
The Longhorns (31-20, 16-10) will look to bounce back and win the series on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT.
Kimble Schuessler had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI triple.
Ace Whitehead pitched four innings and was charged with four runs, three of which were earned. He struck out four batters and scattered six hits in the outing.
Cade O'Hara pitched well out of the bullpen, going 2 1/3 scoreless innings with just one hit allowed.
UCF jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning with a three-run home run off of Whitehead. The Knights added to the lead in the fourth inning with an unearned run to make the score 4-0.
The Longhorns got their first hit and run of the game in the fifth as Schuessler launched a solo home run to left field.
Texas cut the lead to 4-3 with two runs on two hits in the top of the seventh inning. Max Belyeu worked a two-out walk before Schuessler came through again with an RBI triple into the left-field corner. After a pitching change, Porter Brown hit an RBI single to drive in Schuessler from third base.
Easton Tumis came out of the bullpen into a jam in the seventh inning and got a double play ball to end the bases-loaded threat.
UCF managed to tack on an insurance run in the eighth inning after a walk came around to score to make the lead 5-3.
Jalin Flores hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to cut the lead back to one run but that was all the Longhorns would get in the inning.
