Baseball clinches UCF series with 10-7 win

The Longhorns held on for a tough road win to clinch the series over the Knights on Sunday.
ORLANDO, Fla. – Texas Baseball held on for a tough 10-7 win to clinch the series over UCF on Sunday at John Euliano Park.
The Longhorns (32-20, 17-10) jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Knights fought back to tie the game up. Texas then scored runs in the sixth and eighth innings to secure the win.
Jared Thomas tied his career high with four hits, going 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Rylan Galvan also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a double and a two-run homer.
Gage Boehm closed out his second game of the weekend, with 2 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up his seventh save of the season. Charlie Hurley got the win in relief after pitching two innings out of the bullpen.
The Longhorns grabbed an early lead with a run in the top of the first after Jalin Flores doubled and Max Belyeu hit a two-out RBI single.
Texas added to the lead in the second inning with three runs on three hits to make the score 4-0. Porter Brown hit a leadoff single before Galvan hit a two-run homer out to left-center field. Will Gasparino kept the inning going by working a walk and scored on an RBI double by Jared Thomas.
The Longhorns tacked on another run in the fourth inning after Galvan started the inning with a double and scored on a two-out RBI single by Thomas.
Lebarron Johnson Jr. started the game with four hitless innings and seven strikeouts before UCF put together a big fifth inning to chase him out of the game. The Knights scored five runs on five hits to tie the game up 5-5.
Texas responded immediately in the top of the sixth to retake the lead 8-5. Gasparino started things with a double before Dee Kennedy walked and Thomas singled to load the bases. Jalin Flores drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to the warning track in right-center and Peyton Powell drove in two more with a single through the infield.
The Longhorns had an opportunity in the seventh with two runners on and nobody out but were unable to cash in. Then in the bottom of the seventh, the Knights scored two runs to trim the lead to 8-7.
Texas answered in the top of the eighth with a pair of runs to extend the lead to 10-7. Thomas and Flores both singled before Powell walked to load the bases. After a pitching change, Belyeu hit a sacrifice fly and Brown drove in the other run with an RBI groundout.
The Longhorns will close out the regular season next weekend with a three-game series against Kansas at UFCU Disch-Falk Field
