Baseball’s Witt selected on final day of MLB Draft

The Longhorns had a total of three players selected in the 2024 MLB Draft.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Baseball's Tanner Witt was selected by the New York Mets in the 14th round of the MLB Draft to bring the Longhorns total to three draft picks in 2024.
Witt, who was taken with the 413th overall pick by the New York Mets, pitched in 41 games for the Longhorns in his four-year career. A former 18th round draft pick in 2023, Witt pitched 88 career innings and struck out 101 batters while holding opposing hitters to a .207 batting average.
As a freshman in 2021, Witt was named a Freshman All-American and Honorable Mention All-Big 12 selection. He led Texas with 28 relief appearances and posted a 5-0 record, five saves, a 3.16 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 57 innings pitched
Texas Baseball signee Kyle DeGroat joined other Longhorn signees Bryce Rainer, Theo Gillen and Levi Sterling being selected in the 2024 MLB Draft.
With the three MLB Draft selections in 2024, at least one Longhorn has been drafted every year since the Major League Baseball draft began in 1965.
