Former Longhorn earns his fourth career PGA TOUR victory.
BLAINE, Minn. — Former University of Texas star Jhonattan Vegas posted a 1-under 70 on Sunday afternoon to win the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities. Vegas registered his fourth career PGA TOUR victory and first since the 2017 RBC Canadian Open.
Vegas registered a 72-hole total of 17-under 267 (68-66-63-70) to hold off Max Greyserman (16-under 268) by one stroke and both Matt Kuchar and Maverick McNealy (15-under 269) by two strokes. Greyserman shot a back-nine 6-under 30 to climb to 16-under and take a one-shot lead, before Vegas made birdies on holes 16 and 18 to seal his victory.
With the win, Vegas climbed 83 spots in the FexEx Cup standings from No. 149 to No. 66. The top 70 players in the rankings advance to the first FedEx Cup Playoffs event, the FedEx St. Jude Championship on August 15-18 at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn.
This also marks the seventh PGA TOUR event won by a former University of Texas player during the 2024 calendar year. Scottie Scheffler, the current No. 1 player in the world rankings, has claimed six PGA TOUR titles this season.
The win marked the 105th official PGA TOUR victory for The University of Texas Men's Golf program, accomplished by 17 different individuals in the 98-year history of the TOUR.
