No. 16 Soccer’s Kelly earns 300th career coaching victory

Texas remains undefeated at Mike A. Myers Stadium through first five home matches of 2024 season
AUSTIN, Texas – The machine that Angela Kelly built over the last 13 seasons on the Forty Acres carried the head coach to her 300th career coaching victory on Thursday night following Texas' 3-1 win against San Diego State.
While most of her 140 career wins at Texas have come with ease, it was a come-from-behind effort that gave the 25-year coaching veteran the milestone after the Aztecs took a quick 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the contest. But it was a pair of first-year Longhorns that immediately erased UT's first deficit at home since Oct. 8, 2023 against Iowa State.
Just over two minutes after San Diego State's goal, Madison Haugen connected with freshman Amalia Villarreal with a cross from left of the 18-yard box that the Michigan native sent into the back of the net for her second career goal and tie the match at 1-1.
The 1-1 score stood for nearly the next 40 minutes before Carly Montgomery headed in a Lexi Missimo corner kick for not only her second career goal but a goal that pushed the Longhorns ahead 2-1. It became 3-1, Longhorns, in the closing minutes of the night as Ashlyn Miller flicked a pass over the back line of the Aztecs' defense for Missimo, who converted a 1-on-1 opportunity with San Diego State goalkeeper Alexa Madueno for her 49th career goal.
FROM HEAD COACH ANGELA KELLY
"To be perfectly honest, I wasn't aware that (the 300th win) could have been tonight. I don't really think about those types of things or track those. It's not about me and I don't earn any one of those wins without the squad and, obviously, the duo of Lexi Missimo and Trinity Byars. It's a great accomplishment. I'm happy, but I'm most happy for the program and the team."
