No. 7 Women’s Tennis completes three-day Texas Invite

The Longhorns posted 16 combined wins in singles and doubles against opponents from San Diego, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Austin – No. 7 Texas Women's Tennis posted 16 combined singles and doubles wins against opponents from San Diego, Tennessee and Wisconsin while hosting the three-day Texas Invite in Austin from Friday through Sunday. Day one was forced inside the Weller Indoor Tennis Center due to weather, but the other two days were held outside at the Texas Tennis Center.
Both freshman No. 44 Ariana Anazagasty-Pursoo and junior No. 95 Vivian Ovrootsky posted 6-0 records, playing in the maximum number of three singles matches and three doubles matches and winning them all.
Day one featured four singles wins for the Longhorns against players from Wisconsin, including Anazagasty-Pursoo and Ovrootsky, freshman No. 28 Carmen Herea, and sophomore Shachf Lieberman. Anazagasty-Pursoo combined with freshman Eszter Meri for a doubles win against Tennessee.
Herea, Anazagasty-Pursoo and Ovrootsky all came back with day two singles wins against ranked Volunteers, including Herea topping No. 10 Elza Tomase, 6-3, 7-6 (7), Anazagasty-Pursoo downing No. 19 Catherine Aulia, 6-4, 7-6 (5), and Ovrootsky defeating No. 54 Vanesa Suarez, 6-4, 6-3. In doubles, Ovrootsky paired with senior Sabina Zeynalova, and Lieberman combined with Anazagasty-Pursoo for wins over San Diego.
The final day saw Anazagasty-Pursoo and Ovrootsky complete their 3-0 singles records with wins against players from San Diego and Wisconsin, respectively, while Zeynalova also picked up a singles win against San Diego. Additionally, the Longhorns swept three doubles matches, including Ovrootsky with freshman Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz against Wisconsin, Zeynalova with freshman Ashton Bowers over the Badgers, and Anazagasty-Pursoo with Meri against San Diego.
Texas is slated to open its dual match season on the road at USC on Friday, January 17, at 12 p.m. PT/2 p.m. CT.
