Senior Christiaan Maas claimed the individual title by 10 strokes at the World Amateur Team Championships.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of Texas senior Christiaan Maas has again been named the Southeastern Conference Men's Co-Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday. This marks Maas' third career weekly SEC honor and second league accolade in the last three weeks, as he previously earned Co-Golfer of the Week recognition on Oct. 1, 2025 and March 19, 2025. Maas shared this week's league honor with Brycen Jones of Alabama.
Maas paced Team South Africa to the team title at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships (Oct. 8-11) in Singapore. He became the first individual from South Africa and first from the African continent to win the individual title at the World Amateur Team Championships with a four-round score of 22-under 266 (66-66-65-69), 10 shots in front of runner-up Declan O'Donovan (Australia) at 12-under 276.
His score of 266 tied the second-lowest 72-hole individual mark in championship history, matching the score of Victor Perez (France), Lucas Herbert (Australia) and Alejandro Tosti (Argentina) in 2014 in Japan. Spain's Jon Rahm set the low 72-hole total in championship history in 2014 with a mark of 263.
Maas had a remarkable week in Singapore, carding four rounds in the 60s and registering just three bogeys across the 72 holes. He joined previous notable winners of the Eisenhower Trophy that includes: Jack Nicklaus (1960), Hal Sutton (1980), Rickie Fowler (2008), Jon Rahm (2014) and Cameron Davis (2016).
Maas helped Team South Africa complete the four-round event with a team score of 29-under 547 to claim an eight-shot victory over runner-up Australia at 21-under 555. This marked the first team championship for South Africa in tournament history, as its previous best finish was a silver medal in 1980.
Maas and the No. 5 Longhorns are back in action on Oct. 19-21 (Sunday-Tuesday) at the Williams Cup in Wilmington, N.C.
