MacMillan nets first career goal in defeat
AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas soccer team didn't concede a goal in the run of play, but the Longhorns came up short to the Florida Gators, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Florida (5-5-3, 1-2-3 SEC) converted a pair of penalty kicks in the second half, securing the Gators their first conference win of the season.
Kai Tsakiri scored from the spot in the 50th minute, while Abby Gemma delivered the game-winning goal in the 66th minute.
After Tsakiri vaulted the visitors ahead, 1-0, the Longhorns (3-9-1, 1-5 SEC) answered seven minutes later to level the contest.
A trio of freshmen teamed up for Texas' tally, with Molly MacMillan registering her first career goal.
Sadie Hoch darted into open space before laying off a pass to Ava McDonald just outside the box. McDonald took a touch and curled a cross in front of the net, where MacMillan headed home the service into the bottom right corner.
With MacMillan's goal, 16 of the Longhorns' 18 tallies have been recorded by underclassmen, including all seven in league play.
In the defeat, Texas outshot Florida, 14-12. The Longhorns mounted five shots on target, while the Gators totaled three on frame.
Up next, Texas hits the road to take on No. 10 South Carolina on Thursday evening. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. CT. / 6 p.m. ET at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium.
